Experimental brain transplant surgery saves either your life, or someone very close.
This choice: Your father, Donald Connors.  •  Go Back...
Chapter #4

Your father, Donald Connors.

"...Your father. He's dead."

Almost immediately, you burst into tears. No longer able to control yourself as the doctors let you grieve. Picturing the last time you'd seen him, sitting in the drivers seat next to your mother, enthusiastically giving a play-by-play of the game. Seeing how he was the big sports nut of the family. Having played football all through high school and college. Your father being a real manly sort of man. Loving nothing more than a cold beer, a nice juicy steak, and a game on the TV. Either that or hitting a few balls down at the links. Being an avid golfer too. And while you had never really shown much of an interest in either of these past times (being much more of a shy, scrawny gamer-type), the two of you were still close. Never seeming too disappointed that you hadn't followed in his sporting footsteps, or that his dad jokes only went down well half of the time. Loving you regardless. And you him. Being the true rock of the family. The bread winner. The handy man. The guy who was always there to fix whatever got broken, as well as lend an ear to any problems you might have. But now he was gone. You'd never get to see or speak to him again. Which was a realization that was far too horrible to bear. Cursing fate for being so cruel and taking him well before his time.

Not that this was the end of the story. The two doctors clearly having more to tell you. Giving you a few minutes to get most of your crying out of your system, before hitting you with some almost as equally horrifying news...

"There's more, I'm afraid. You see, although we were unable to save your father's life, due to him being brain dead by the time he arrived, the rest of his body was perfectly fine. And, well... We had another patient, who'd also been brought in, who's time was quickly running out..."

"What... What do you mean?" you sniffled. Not sure where Kerry was going with this. Surely they hadn't done something to your father's body... Had they?

"Their injuries were well beyond any conventional surgery to repair. But fortunately Dr. Saunders and I have been researching brain transplantation for nearly twenty years now. Which meant that there was a chance... A slim chance... that using an experimental procedure , we could save at least one of the lives. Using your father as a donor."

Oh my God... They did! They used his body to experiment on!

"We of course received your mother's permission first before going through with anything. And, although this is still a terrible tragedy and we are both deeply saddened by your loss, the transplant procedure was indeed a success and, with your father's help, we managed to save a life."

Hearing this, you almost felt like for a moment that you were going to throw up. It being utterly insane and not at all what you wanted to hear at this moment. Which was the fact that someone else was now inhabiting your father's form. This sounding more like something out of a science fiction movie than real life. Questioning then if this was actually some kind of sick and twisted joke.

Neither of the doctors looked like they were joking however. Their facial expressions remaining deadly serious.

Causing you to croak, "Who...?" Needing to know, if this was indeed true, who's brain exactly now resided inside his head. "Who is it?"

And being told by Dr. Kerry in return that it was...
