The potion Ron was brewing had been altered by accident. Getting Padma's hairs had caused him to not pay attention to his potion.
A small spider had fallen into the potion changing it's properties.
When Ron went to begin testing if the skinsuit poly worked, a loud Gloop was heard.
A bubble formed and burst. The goo hit Professor McGonagall, Hermione and Ron. Harry had the good sense to duck.
The three affected persons struggled to remove the goo the was expanding over them.
Harry watched as the goo on McGonagall had hit her chest. The goo was spreading over the uniform of the professor, and Gryffindor robes could be seen forming where the goo had done its work.
Hermione was fighting to remove a small piece that had hit her leg. Already her calf showed signs of Indian orgin.
Ron's changes were the most extreme. He had been hit in four spots allowing the goo to work faster. He was mumbling "not there" as the goo on his stomach and legs merged.
Harry finally realized what was happening. The goo was changing all three into Padma Patil.
