The spider decides between much at random to go east. He sent many messages up to Gor but nobody has even anything green from up here. The open option was to just keep going to they got out of the area effected by the famine.
They covered a hundred miles in the first day the village was on his back.
They found nothing green, except one piece of malachite jewellery.
They next day they covered 105 miles and still founded naught but barren land.
110 miles was uncovered the next day, to no result but finding more mouths that needed feeding.
A whole week went by, every day brought more hungry mouth and they found less and less to feed them with.
Fortunately the report Cragic had sent and unleased a wave of popular sympathy in the city of gor. Many thousands of food packets when sent down every day. The largest amount were sent to Cragic but all the other less spider guardians got a lot of packages too. Tens of thousands were saved from starvation. As the one that had inspired this every package made Cragic grow slightly bigger.
By the end of the week Cragic was a thousand feet tall and had 20 000 people lived on him. This started to cause problems as there social structure just wasn't built to handle having these many people together. Crime became more common as people came into contract with people they had no ties to at all, there languages started to diverge enough that it became hard to understand some people, theological different were enough to cause several massive arguments. If Cragic intervened it often made things worse.
Eventually Cragic gathered one person from each tribe and told them to sort it. What ever they did worked as after that there was a lot less fighting and lot more meetings.
Cragic kept going east. Other spider guardians assuming he had some sort of plan followed him carrying there villages on their backs too. Cragic knew that the sympathy of people of gor would run out eventually and even this mystical growing guardian power kept up and kept growing he didn't want their whole society to be completely dependent on him forever, he was sure that wouldn't be psychologically damaging. He needed to find a space were they could grow, gather or catch their own food. Cragic but all his hope on the ocean, surely that would still have bounty to give?
3 days that they reached the ocean. Now 2000 feet tall.
He scanned the sky, he knew birds would gather above any concentrations of fish. He looked and looked and saw no flocks of birds. What seaweed their was long dried out and dead, completely inedible and they really tried to make it so.
In a last ditch attempt he sent samples of seawater up to Gor. They analysed them and found only a very planktons per galleon. Thousandth of what a health ocean would have.
Cragic then began to cry. If even the ocean was dying then all the land would be just as bad if not worse. They was nowhere that he could take them.
This continued for several days. Other spiders took over sharing out the food and slowly began to catch up with Cragic in size. The tallest reach 500feet.
Eventually Trug the shaman decided to talk to cragic.
"Why are you so sad, did we do anything wrong"
"No, don't you ever think that, its just that the ocean is near dead too, that means everything is dead. There is no fertile land I can carry you to. I'm so sorry," explained Cragic.
"So We'll all just have to live on you until you get bigger and strong enough to fix the whole planet," asked Trug
"You really think I'll be able to fix the whole planet," asked Cragic
"Or course, you do grow bigger and stronger every day after all. Your also really smart and nobody can doubt the will power of someone you will tear of one of their one legs, and your not even a millipede. Anyway if you keep growing like this your eventually become a planet then we can ALL live on you instead," comforted Trug
"Would you like to live on a planet sized me," ask cragic
"Of course" reassured Trug
Cragic then got up.
"If I'm going to fix this planet I have to figure out who it got all broken. Hey fellow Gorians," he called out of the other giant spiders that had gathered around "I need all the data on this planet you can get. I need geology, zoology, oceanology, climatology, astronomy, astrology, sociology, hydrology and every ology you can think of. Something happened to this planet and I want to know what,"
They got to work.
The project took a long time and they found out.
