This choice: Valerie Catti, 21-year-old model • Go Back... "So are you nervous?" asked the person sitting next to her.
Valerie Catti thought about this question as she sat in the waiting room at Newlife. Of course she was a little nervous, this being her first time, but that wasn't the predominant emotion she was feeling. If anything, she was excited. She'd wanted to be a part of this ever since she'd heard about Newlife and the head/life-swapping procedure. The opportunity to live someone else's life seemed like a dream to her, especially considering the stresses of her own. Valerie had been a model since she was a teenager, and it was hardly the idyllic life that some of her non-model friends seemed to think it was. She hadn't had a real vacation in years (that was part of the appeal of Newlife - whoever got her life would take over her job, meaning that she could enjoy a vacation while her job still got done and money still poured into her account).
"Not really," she answered the question. It was mostly true...mostly.
"Ms. Catti, we're ready for you," someone said at last.
Valerie met with the doctor and shook his hand. "I know this is your first time," he said, "but don't worry - you're in great hands." He leaned in closer. "I understand you requested a male body, early 20s?"
"That's right," said Valerie, smiling. "I thought it might be...interesting."
"Lots of people rent opposite sex. Great way to broaden your horizons, or so I've heard. Just yesterday I had a 40-year-old man who wanted to be a 20-year-old woman! I wouldn't be surprised if a guy ends up with your body, too."
"Lucky him," she joked half-heartedly. Valerie had a great body, it was true, but she'd never really seen it as much more than a tool with which she made her money. Honestly, she'd be glad to leave it behind for a while. And to have a man's body instead, well...that would surely be an experience.
Valerie sat down in a strange-looking chair. "OK, let's begin!" said the doctor. A nurse held the gas mask over her nose and mouth, and her vision began to grow hazy before finally blacking out.
That would be her last experience as Valerie Catti, at least for a while.  indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
