Without a machete, another weapon must be substituted. You will obviously be unable to forge one from metal, so the only options available to you are to craft something fro the natural world. Bits of animal or plant, and the former will surely put up less fight than the latter. So... a pointy stick?
Sounds poor, but you ahve to start somewhere. If that stick allows you to then overcome an insect or something, you can progress.
So, you step out into the early light, wondering where you'd be able to find a stick small enough for you. Hopefully there's enough windfall that you can scavenge a twig, at the very least.
Pushing through the grass, you find just what you wanted: bigger than a redwood, a single branch has fallen from the garden's tree, and many smaller pieces have broken off on impact. It has mashed down some of the grass, and for all the world looks similar to the scene of a downed aircraft.
Just one problem: a bird hops about the area, picking from the wreckage to select bits for its nest. It surely wouldn;t object to snatching you up as an early morning snack.
Sure, you could wait for it to go, but you can never be sure it will have left the area, or that another avian isn't going to follow up shortly after. What's your plan?
