Opening a bedroom door you find yourself looking into a bedroom that no question belonged to the youngest of the Andersons. Ethan was a little untidy, but then so were you at that age. In addition to a slightly unkempt bed there was also a desk, a dresser, closet and shelves lined with books and multiple sci fi models. As you look collection of models and figures you decide that this would be a fun place to set up camp. While the kid was away he could freely explore the insides of one of the many model Spaceships he had on display, or watch him play one of the many video games on the soon to be gigantic TV in the corner. Plus his bedroom was next door to his older sister's bedroom and across the hall to his second oldest with his parents just further down. Seemed like an ideal spot to you.
But where to set up base camp?
The choice was one you had planned for. lifting up the covers at the head board of the bed you make a small incision in the cloth of the wooden framed Box-spring. Then you uncoiled a thread that you knotted in such a way that you could use to climb up inside the box spring. You then covered everything back so that no human eye could detect what you've done. Satisfied, you take out the shrinking device and you were about to activate it when you hear something from downstairs. You freeze as you hear a voice.
"Anyone home?"
It was Ethan. Damn it! you were not expecting him back so soon! You look at the shrinking device you held. You couldn't activate it now, the sound it made might be heard. With footsteps approaching and your options limited you quickly crawl under the bed. Fortunately there wasn't any clutter underneath.
Ethan opened his bedroom door and kicked off his sneakers sending one under the bed. It came to rest in front of your face. Fortunately the 12 year old didn't bother to retrieve it. Dropping his back pack at the door he walked over to the dresser. You hear a drawer opening and closing before he turned and left the room. A moment later and you hear a shower running. Breathing a sigh of relief, you look at the Shrinking device in your hand. Better do it now while the sound was drowned out by the shower running.
After a bright flash, you stand up at your new height of 1/8th of an inch.
The first sight that greets you is the discarded sneaker. It lay on it's side and you could see how darkened the insole had become from being worn. You were almost tempted to climb inside and have a look around, but now wasn't the right time. Or was it?
