Once the final nail was pounded into the door, I glanced uneasily at the clock on the fireplace. 11:54, only six minutes left to go. Thankfully, all the windows and doors had been properly boarded up, but the idea of what'd I'd become still chilled me to the bone.
The cabin was may miles away from the nearest town, and I'd made sure to make myself as alone as possible. I had no idea how strong I'd become, or whether or not the entire place was barricaded enough to prevent me from escaping. That's what made it scary; not knowing whether or not I could control what would happen.
Nonetheless, I did all that I could. Every singly possible exit in the home was locked, chained, and boarded tight, so much that a fly could't get in. The only door I'd left open was for the basement, which I filled with food as a second precaution.
Anything the least bit appetizing that I could get my hands on I bought in massive bulk, filling the food with shelves upon shelves of food, so much that any living thing attempting to eat it all would at least die in one sitting.
I'd hoped it would all serve to distract me until morning, or at least make me so fat as to render me immobile.
As I peered in a teeny slit in one of the board windows, I gulped as I saw a cloud drift across the sky, exposing the full moon. The clock behind me chimed midnight, a sound that now filled me with dread.
