Joe and his friends got talking about the best super power. Brad said confidently, “Strength is the best by far. You can pound anyone and the ladies love muscles. Strength easy.”
Tommy gave a slow shake of the head saying, “I would say super speed. Think of being able to almost instantly be anywhere. All your boring tasks done in seconds. Besides you can take care of boring chores in seconds.”
Mark chimed in, “But then everything would be slow and tedious for you when interacting with people. I think that shapechanging gives you the opportunity to be whatever. That is why having the medallion is so sweet. Too bad we only have one.”
Joe thought about what was being said and responded, “Nope you are all wrong. Mind control is superior. I could control all of you if I had mental powers.”
With that Larry scolded, “That would be evil man. Just pick something fun like the ability to be incredibly lucky. That way everything goes your way.”
Joe said, “I wouldn’t really misuse it. I am just saying that would be the winning power. Now if you guys don’t mind I am going to take the medallion for a while I want to try a few things.” A round of shrugging indifference followed. Joe picked the medallion up off the counter and headed to his room to experiment. He had some ideas that he wished to try.
Brad stood up asking, “Hey Tommy you up for a date tonight? Cindy has a friend Janet that she wants to double with. Larry said he would be out and Mark said he had a project he was working on. What do you say, could be fun?”
Tommy knew Brad was avoiding asking Joe. They’d had some fight that they hadn’t gotten over yet. Tommy laughed, “So, I am your last resort? What is Janet like? You know what either way I am in I got nothing else going on.”
Brad responded, “Thanks bro. You were out when I asked around so don’t feel bad dude. Besides Janet is pretty cute if you can get past her bookishness.”
Tommy said, “You know some people don’t consider reading a personality flaw.”
Brad dismissed Tommy, “If you say so. Be ready by six we’ll take my car.”
Meanwhile Joe placed the medallion on his head waiting for it to sink into his flesh before willing the transformation. His mind shifted and developed strength as he gained the mental powers he desired. With them he could manipulate others into doing as he pleased. He stared at the mouse in its cage. With concentration he forced the mouse to move about in any direction he desired. Joe smiled to himself thinking of the possibilities. Then he remembered Mark’s suggestion. The medallion dropped to the floor but Joe immediately seized it and opened the door to the mouse cage putting the medallion on the mouse.
When the medallion sunk in Joe focused on the rodent making it choose a form of his desire. The mouse’s tail lengthened and curved around until its end inserted itself into its flesh making a loop. The head, legs, and body molded together into a single mass. The mass flattened out a little into a circular shape Hardening into metal the final form was a twin of the medallion. In a couple minutes the original popped out. Holding the pair up he laughed at his genius. A knock on his door broke his revere. “Yes?”
“How long you going to use the amulet for? Emily texted me her piano lesson got canceled so I can come over early. So I was hoping to put my mind back to normal from being Miss Clean.” Larry asked.
“Here,” Joe said passing a medallion through the space under the door. He wanted to get ready there were a few people he wanted to visit with his new abilities.
