Fawn pouted at the lack of atmosphere in Brad’s bedroom. Obviously a room dedicated to worshiping Brad. Trophies and awards for his physical prowess all about his room acting as idols. A full standing mirror to admire his entire body. A mirror attached to the ceiling so he might never be separated from a view of himself. Fawn missed the fantastical atmosphere in rest of the house.
Brad held his lamp against his crotch, “Care to rub my lamp? I am happy to grant your wish.” Brad’s smug smile indicting his desired wish.
Fawn took the lamp with no resistance from Brad, “I know what you want me to wish but I wish that people were magical creatures and we lived in a magical world. I mean I hate the ordinary and you are being pretty basic. I thought that I would be able to live in the fantasy but your room is just a example of self obsession. That is beyond mundane. Are you even listening to me?” Seeing Brad’s eyes glazing over as a massive energy built within him.
Fawn’s wish sent magical energy surging through Brad and then onto the world at large. Buildings and people altered to conform with the wish. Building shifting to provide larger doorways for the awkwardly sized. People changed into new magical beings. Some shrank and grew wings from their backs becoming pixie’s. Others pushed out a second set of legs that walked back as they developed into a horse body to go with their human torso. Society at large rewrote itself. New governments and organizations that they multitude of magical beings helped create. Centaur herds, the midnight society for nocturnal creatures, friends of nature to name but a few.
Big and Tall stores received fresh markets. A new chain of stores formed for minuscule beings called ‘truly tiny’. It provided clothes, furniture and homes for the littlest in society. Food markets offered fares to accommodate special dietary needs such as blood, oats, and grasses.
Added to roads running lanes to provide for those that couldn’t fit in normal vehicles but could move at unnatural speeds. Shuttle services and magical rides to fill in any gaps. Magic carpets ferrying any about the city.
The roommates found their own party no exception. One woman turned green her body bulking up as twin tusks grew out as she became an orc. A man grew tall as his arms elongated fingernails becoming claws. A horrible visage formed on his face as he became a troll. Beauties to from nymphs and dryads. None of them noticed the shifts save the roommates and one other protected as genies from the alterations.
Fawn the originator of the wish also remained immune to the mental effects but she found herself subject to physical alteration. Her skin wrinkled as a putrid greenish hue. Her fingers became gnarled long with yellowed crusty nails. Sharp like talons and more nimble than they appeared. Her teeth sharpened into points capable of rending flesh from bone. Her hair scraggly unkempt seemingly black as night. Internally an unseen change. Magical powers developed in the new born hag. A magical being known for its mystical abilities and dark practices. Fawn understood what she became. She relished in the power. With a snap of her fingers an illusion showed only her former form. She understood what was and what now is. She took away Brad’s lamp to be used for her own purposes. “Later handsome. This has been fun.” Fawn cackled as she wiggled her fingers in goodbye gesture.
“Wait what do you think you are doing with my lamp?” Brad asked.
“Taking the lamp for protection. Any owner of a genie’s lamp has protection from other genie wishes. It provides security and I mean to protect myself from others. Tah.” Fawn exited without much fan fair.
Classes at school for magic now offered in a variety of forms. Spell casting, alchemy and magical item construction all legitimate courses and professions. Understanding magic a required course for all incoming students that they might know an overview of the wonders possible.
Tommy, Larry and Joe all convened in a corner of the living room. Quietly whispering Joe spoke first, “You all saw what just happened right?”
“You mean how all these people transformed? Yeah I think we all caught that.” Tommy said sarcastically.
“It is surreal having the split memories.” Larry said. “What do we do about it?”
“Finding the others is a good place to start.” Joe responded.
