"Nothing, let's just continue"

    by: Bikerider Author IconMail Icon
The circle of light created by the torch that Steven held above his head began to shrink.
"I think your torch is going out," Laura said over her shoulder.
"That's just your imagination," Steven replied. "I can see perfectly well."
Laura noticed that with each step she took her toes got closer and closer to where the light faded to nothing.
"Yes it is, Steven," Laura replied. "Why is it you always think I'm wrong. I'm beginning to wonder if maybe you think I'm blond."
"Blond?" Steven said as the darkness crept up behind him. "What does that mean." Steve wasn't about to say he knew the old joke about blonds not being too smart. "There's nothing wrong with blonds. Some of my best friends are blond."
Laura chucked. "Sure, Steve, I believe that."
As Steve and Laura were talking, they didn't notice the set of burning green eyes that flanked their path. As they moved the two forward, so did the eyes.
"Did you see that?" Laura asked.
"See what?" Steve said. He looked around trying to figure out what Laura was talking about, but saw nothing except the fact that the flame was indeed slowly extinguishing itself.
"I thought I saw something, that's all." Laura didn't want Steve to think she was being paranoid so she just ignored what she saw. Maybe I didn't really see anything, Laura told herself. Stop being such a little girl.
As they traipsed further, the darkness crept closer to them with each step they took. Laura noticed that things were getting darker and darker, but telling Steve would only cause an argument, so she remained quiet.
Suddenly the torch gave one last blast of light and blinked out.
"What the heck?" Steve said and lowered the torch as if he would be able to see what was wrong. And that's when he saw that thousands of bright green eyes surrounded them in the dark forest. "Oh my God," he mumbled and began backing away.
Laura, finding herself in total darkness turned around but Steven wasn't there anymore. She reached out as she began walking back the way they came, until she touched something slimy and cold. Whatever it was opened its eyes and Laura screamed, as the monster pulled her until her body was absorbed by it.
Steven gave a scream and as he slowly disappeared the monster who grew bigger with Steven's body inside of him opened his eyes to reveal flames of green eyes.
