My hand felt its way down to my dagger. I didn't look at it, but I heard its sharp steel grind against its sheath as I drew it out. I pointed it at my heart.
Silently I prayed to a nameless deity to save my soul for the kingdom in the sky. Better to humble myself and submit to supernatural rule (if there really were gods up there) than wind up in Hades. To be safe I prayed twice.
I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. The smell of the roses washed over my senses. They were in full bloom this time of year. I was tempted to open my eyes again to take one last look at the garden or the stars. But no. It was better to get it over with quick. No more thoughts. My grip on the hilt tightened. I breathed out and plunged the blade into my chest.
