"Welcome", The wizard said as we entered, "Thank you for answering my call." His voice was low and steady. I nodded to him and walked a few paces towards him, my brother Kallem at my side. Kallem's hand hovered at his sword, although it was not necessary - the old mage evidently meant us no harm - and even if he had, a long sword would be no match against his great powers.
"Please," He continued, "Take a seat - would you like some tea? Some wine?" He gestured to a small mole - like creature who began to fuss at a low, wooden table with jugs, cups and sugar bowls.
"Thank you, " I said, helping myself to a drink, more out of politeness than because I was thirsty - although once I brought the cup to my lips I realized my throat had been more parched than I had imagined. I am not the most powerful wizard in the land, and evil will do its best to triumph, but we must join forces to ensure that this does not happen. I want only peace and justice for this realm. Here, take this locket. This is your way of connecting with me, wherever I am - look inside and you will see my face. You will be able to speak with me. Now, return to your village and take whatever action you deem necessary - remember, I will be here to help you when I can, but you must also help yourselves."
As his speech ended, there was a sharp, cracking sound accompanied by a purple flash of light. Kallem and I blinked. We were back in the forest clearing. The tree, mole, table and wizard had all vanished, yet when I looked down at my palm there lay there a small, golden locket on a chain.......
