You have quite the war going on with Denise, as she started working at the office at the same time that you started. From day one, everything between you had been a competition, from making coffee for your managers to sales, from reports to presentations... You are thankful to say that on most occasions, you get the better of her and quite often find yourself gloating and teasing her for being '2nd best' to you. You know she would love nothing more than to beat you and rub it in your face for a change.
During your time at the office, Denise has constantly been trying to ruin you. After losing to you time and time again, you believe Denise has decided to resort to more unsportsmanlike behaviour. Rather than competing against you, she has been trying to sabotage you, making you look bad, spreading false rumours... This has just added to your hatred of her, and proven to you that this woman will stop at NOTHING to destroy you... Luckily for you, she does not know any weaknesses about you, and you intend to keep it that way.
"Good morning Denise, how are you?" Kim asks her.
"I am wonderful, thanks Kim. What's going on here?" Denise asks, nosing in on your business.
"Well, I was just asking James here if he would like to show our new girl around the office and take a role in her training and induction to the office" Kim says.
Denise immediately shoots you a sideways look of utter detest. It is clear that she sees this as a slap in the face, yet another example of how you have beaten her... Kim would rather have you train the new staff than her...
"If James isn't confident enough to take on a role like this, I can assure you that I can do it exceptionally well" Denise says, pouncing on the opportunity to take your job.
"Really Denise? I love your motivation to help, it is exactly what we are looking for in our more senior members of staff" she tells Denise.
Denise beams with happiness at this, and your heart drops. You can NOT let Denise take this opportunity from you, this is exactly what Kim is looking for in a future manager.
"Ah, Kim, before Denise interrupted us, I was about to tell you that I would be happy to take on the responsibility of training the new girl" you say with a level of sincere professionalism.
"Kim, he only said that because he realised how important this is to you. He wouldn't have cared otherwise!" Denise tells Kim... Let the sabotage begin...
"Honestly Denise... I think you are right. James, you didn't answer me when I asked you at first, why should I believe that you are more motivated to step up and help that Denise here?" Kim asks you.
This is not good...
"Ummm.... Well, I was thinking of all the other tasks I had to do and if I could take on this responsibility without jeopardising my other tasks" you say, dodging a bullet.
"And you decided that you have today free did you?" Kim asks.
You take a quick second to think about your answer. Saying yes will imply you had nothing to do today, but saying no would mean you can't train the new girl.
"Yes Kim, my day is free to train the new girl" you reply, making up your mind.
