Chapter #4

Rendezvous with the Erimosi Vessel

    by: Carnivore Author IconMail Icon
Despite the misgivings from Erin, and the Erimosi that programmed it into her, you decide that meeting up with the Erimosi ship and meeting an injured Yathi would be the safest choice. "I know you don't like it, Erin. But I think we should rendezvous with that Erimosi ship. Please set a course there."

"Aye, captain." Erin says, still sounding reluctant. "I'll take us there, and relay our situation to the Erimosi captain." With that, you suddenly feel the acceleration of the engine, which quickly delivers you into deep space. Then, without even a warning, Erin pops the warp drive. Perhaps its because you picked the option she didn't want, but without any warning, the warp jump disorients you more than you expect. The stars change and a large vessel pops into your view screen, but you sit there dumbly for a couple minutes as your faculties slowly return to you. The human body just wasn't designed for warp space, even if it only lasts an instant.

"While you're sitting there drooling, I explained our situation to Captain Uriana, of the Erimosi light cruiser." Erin tells you. That massive thing is a light cruiser? You can't imagine what an Erimosi flagship must look like, they've never brought one to Sol system. Still, the light cruiser is larger than even the biggest Earth-made vessels. It makes you glad the Erimosi are on your side, even if they'd prefer you make contact on your own. The Swift Feather heads towards an opening docking bay, and the larger ship engulfs your own.

Since the vessel is Erimosi, you don't even bother to check to see if the atmosphere is compatible. While Erimosi prefer air that's a little higher in oxygen content, it's perfectly suitable to humans. You hop out of airlock and onto the ship, but once there you're met with a fresh surprise. The dress code on this ship is nothing like what you're used to seeing from Erimosi back home! You're used to seeing Erimosi wearing long, conservative robes, making them look like priests or nuns. But the handful of Erimosi you see here are wearing almost nothing! Two of them stand in front of you, with a handful more mulling around in the background, all female. At least that met your expectations, Erimosi men only comprise 10% of the population, and tend not to leave homeworld. But the Erimosi look like they're ready for a day at the beach, each of them wearing the equivalent of a strapless bikini in various bright colors. Their bodies all look like statuesque representations of a human ideal, as if carved out of obsidian, their jet skin revealed to you in all its glory.

One of the Erimosi in front of you steps forward, followed by another. "Greetings, human. I am Captain Uriana. This will be your attaché while on board, Doctor Enoa." She tells you, gesturing to her compatriot. The captain is clothed in a white garment, while the Doctor's are green, making you wonder if those are distinctions between command and medical. Behind them, you notice others wearing red as well. "I understand you are here to meet the Yathi we took on board. Enoa can give you the details, however I have duties to attend to. You will excuse me." You tell the captain that you do in fact understand, and she bows before promptly turning and leaving.

"I'm sure you're wondering about our clothing." Enoa says to you, and you realize that your expression is probably fairly easy to read. "Our research indicated humans would respond best to the robes that you have been accustomed to, at least initially. However, what you see here is more typical for our people. We don't like covering ourselves like you do. You'll find that most humanoids are more like us than like you that way." Enoa tells you, and starts directing you towards a hallway. You nod at the revelation, but in reality its more than a little shocking. You'd love it if they dressed like this all the time, you can't help but linger over the attractive forms of Erimosi officers as they pass by you in the wide corridors of the luxurious looking ship.

At the same time, the Erimosi seem to be returning your gaze just as eagerly. "Enoa, I feel like I'm being stared at a little." You tell her in a low tone, although you hear the Erimosi who just passed you giggle lightly.

"Ah, well most Erimosi have never seen a human before, only heard about them. You may not believe it, but they're very interested in meeting with you. However, on the Captain's orders, I'm the only one assigned to you, and everyone else is to carry on in their duties." Enoa tells you. The idea of all these advanced, not to mention rather attractive, aliens all interested in you is pretty flattering. You'd love to meet with them, and you'd imagine you'd have time despite the mission, but Enoa seems to have indicated otherwise.

"I don't understand, why do I have to be kept away from everyone?" you ask Enoa. A conflicted expression appears over her soft features, and her pale blue eyes look away, a hand playing with her white hair.

"You'd… be a distraction." She finally tells you, after a disconcertingly lengthy pause. "We're actually on a tight schedule, and I can attend to any of your needs. Come, this way! I'll take you to the room in the med bay with the Yathi." Enoa says, changing the subject quickly. Her answer didn't completely answer your questions, and you feel like the Erimosi are hiding something from you. The Captain barely said a word to you before leaving, and now the only person allowed to talk to you is this doctor. Still, Erin did say the Erimosi didn't want you to make first contact this way, and they might have their reasons. You are interfering with whatever they're doing.

As the two of you walk down the corridor, you continue to feel eyes on you from the Erimosi passers by, heading to their stations or to their quarters. Some seem to whisper just outside the hearing range of your translator. And you also notice Enoa's eyes on you every so often as well, furtively glancing when she believes you aren't looking. It's too much to believe that they find you as beautiful as you do them. Is a human that interesting to them? Erimosi weren't supposed to be as curious as humans, that's why they don't explore much!

You try to think of what to say next to Enoa, as you start to reach the medical/biological wing of the ship, certain symbols in the corridor taking on the green shade of the doctor's skimpy clothing.
