“Let’s go to the Yathi colony,” you announce. “I think I’ll be able to learn the most about the Yathi there.”
“Alright, I’ll just get the warp engines set,” Erin declares, seeming happy that you chose this option. Within a minute, the engines are ready, and she continues, “I’m engaging the warp drive. This might feel a little weird.” Suddenly, you feel the warp engines activate, and you are thrust back in your seat. Your whole head becomes cloudy, and it takes you a minute to reset after the ship slows down from the jump. When you finally come to it, you see a small planet in your view screen. “In English, this colony’s name is Feather Hole. It is 45% land and 65% water, and the water makes the land appear very green from outside. The gravity here is at about 50% of Earth’s, which would make it just 3% of the gravity on the Yathi home world. Since the gravity is so low, the Yathi are fairly uncomfortable, making them a little less effective at being hostile. The air is about 50% oxygen, so you will want to keep your helmet on. That is all I have.”
“Thank you, Erin,” you respond. “Any other advice on dealing with the Yathi?”
“Make sure you meet a lone Yathi,” Erin advises. “This will make sure that you are the safest that you can be. Secondly, if you can find a weakness on the Yathi, use it against them. If you establish dominance, the Yathi will be bound to obey you by their honor code. Going along with this, I want to remind you to not show weakness. They will exploit any weakness they find on you to try to get you to submit to them. Lastly, be confident! Especially with the low gravity here, the Yathi will be less likely to be aggressive if you appear confident that you can establish dominance over them. You can make successful contact with the Yathi and will if you are confident!”
“Alright,” you answer Erin with a little sureness, giving yourself at least a small chance to survive this. “Where would be the best place for us to land?”
“I found a hill on the north side of the planet,” Erin proclaims. “There appears to be a single Yathi headed there, but I do not detect any other Yathis in the area. It might be your best chance to meet a lone Yathi. Should I land us there?”
“Please do so,” you confirm. Erin guides the ship down slowly, and you get out of the ship, your suit and helmet still on. “How far away is the Yathi?”
“She is about a mile away, and she should see the ship soon,” Erin notifies you. “You should meet her a little away from here, but do not stray too far. It will be better if she has to walk longer than you, as she will be a little more exhausted. I will be able to talk with you through your suit’s translator, and I will give you advice as needed. You can do this, Captain!”
“Thanks for the faith in me,” you confidently say, believing that you can make good relations -with a relatively tired Yathi. You walk about one hundred yards and then wait for the Yathi to come to you. Once the Yathi is about two hundred yards away from you, you call out, “Hello! I am a human from Earth, and I have come to establish peaceful relations with the Yathi!”
“Hello!” the Yathi calls out as she approaches you quickly, stopping a few feet away from you. “My name is Lieutenant Quiana, and I am a patrol officer here.” What does Quiana do next?
