Edgeworth pressed the Aware Swap button, and almost instantly he found himself across the room, sitting down on the couch. That wasn't the only change, though. He was shorter and slimmer, and he certainly wasn't male anymore. Looking down at himself, his body was now definitely female, several years younger too, and he was dressed in Kay's usual outfit. A bit of black hair fell down in front of his eyes. Without a doubt, the remote had worked, and he was now in Kay's body.
And of course, if he was in her body, she was in his, as was evidenced by the loud scream coming from his body, which he wouldn't be surprised if it could have been heard from inside the adjacent offices. She patted down her body, or more accurately Edgeworth's body, frantically, knocking the chess table over in her panic. She looked up at Edgeworth, in her body, and practically yelled, "Mr. Edgeworth, what's going on!? What did you do!?"
It was strange, to say the least, for Edgeworth to see his own body moving of its own accord from an outside perspective, but stranger still to see it acting in such a manner. He stood up slowly, and said, "Kay, calm down. I can ex-"
"Calm down!?" Kay interrupted. "I'm supposed to be the thief around her, but now you're stealing bodies!?"
"Kay, I didn't steal you body," Edgeworth replied, taking a much harsher tone, although it didn't seem to have as much weight to it with Kay's voice. "Now calm down and stop shouting before you get us both removed from the building." Kay went silent, not entirely sure how to react to seeing her body act that way. Once he was sure she had quietened down, Edgeworth resumed talking, "Good, now allow me to explain. A few minutes before you arrived, I found a package outside my door, that contained a remote." He went to show her the remote, but realised it was was no longer in his hand. He looked around at the floor around him, and over at the couch where he had been sitting, but it didn't seem to be anywhere.
Before he could check anywhere else, Kay held up her and, revealing that she was holding the remote. "You mean this one?"
Edgeworth frowned. The remote must have stayed with his own body after the switch. That seemed like a major design flaw for the remote, allowing the person you'd swapped with to swap right back, or preventing you from making further swaps. "Yes, that's the one. It came with an instruction manual claiming it could swap people's bodies. I thought it was just some practical joke, but I decided to see whether it would work or not."
"Well, it works," Kay said stating the obvious, looking at the remote curiously.
"Yes, it does. Now, could you people give it back to me so that I can swap us back?"
"Huh?"
Edgeworth wasn't sure if Kay didn't understand, or if she had just been distracted by the remote and wasn't listening. He was pretty sure it was the latter, but elected to explain regardless. "I only swapped with you to test the device's capabilities, I have no intention of keeping your body. So, if you could please hand me the remote, I will swap us back into our correct bodies."
Kay couldn't help but find it weird to see her body acting so formal like that. The remote had piqued her interest, though. She could only imagine how much easier her life as the Great Thief Yatagarasu would be with a little gadget like this. It could be like hiding in plain sight.
"Kay!" Kay was snapped out of her daydream by an increasingly-impatient Edgeworth, who was standing with his hand outstretched, waiting for Kay to give the remote back to him. He was growing rather uncomfortable in Kay's body as he noticed more and more differences, and he wanted to swap back into his own body, and then figure out what to do with the remote from there.
