It wasn't by choice that you had arrived for a house sitting and babysitting gig at the Thompson's - they were friends of your parents and they'd pretty much insisted you take the job when it was offered. You weren't exactly the person that was the number one choice for a babysitter. Sure, you'd looked after your own sister Jenny on more than one occasion, but Stephanie Miller or Jenna Smith were the normal choices for babysitter in the neighbourhood. And you knew full well that the Thompson's had asked them to babysit their daughter Kimi in the past.
You also knew - thanks to the rumour mill at school - why they weren't taking this job. A lot of the kids at your school had babysat Kimi and almost none of them would go back. It wasn't that she was a bad kid - a bit of a brat, but all kids are. It was that she was unsettling. At 6 and a half years old she stood 4'10" already - taller than Jenna who was a high school junior. She didn't have the odd proportions of many people who grew far too quickly either. But, as difficult as it might be to babysit a child taller tahn you, it wasn't her height that made Jenna refuse to go back after 2 babysitting jobs. As she put it, it was the girl's eyes.
Stephanie had been the first to babysit for the Thompson's. She was at the local college now, but then she'd been a high school freshman. They'd needed to go out for a couple hours when Kimi was 3 weeks old and really couldn't take the girl with her. According to Stephanie she'd heard the girl say her first word at 3. Not 3 years, not 3 months - 3 weeks. And it wasn't even something like "Mama" or "Dada" - Stephanie swore that Kimi's first word was "Stephanie". She even claimed it hadn't been hard to understand. Most people though she was crazy - none of the following babysitters heard the girl speak until a much more appropriate age - but they all said they could see something in her eyes. Like she was studying them. By the time she was 1 her babysitters claimed that Kimi looked at them with what they could swear was contempt. Carrie Walker, who'd babysat for the Thompson's when Kimi was 3 claimed that when she went to make Kimi lunch, she'd left her homework sitting open. When she came back several more math problems had been completed. When she showed the work to anyone they wouldn't believe her as it looked very much like her own handwriting.
No later babysitter reported that same thing, but many swore that they'd spot Kimi reading their textbooks, or that they'd found complex equations written in Kimi's colouring books. The one thing they all agreed on - there was something behind Kimi's eyes that just seemed completely off for a girl her age.
When you arrived at the house the Thompson's gave you the run down on how to look after the house, gave Kimi a peck on the cheek and headed out the door. When you turned to face Kimi you saw that thing in her eyes, and you had some idea what it was. Your parents both had scientific doctorates, and you'd seen it in their eyes too. It was the look in the eyes of the very intelligent - only in Kimi's eyes you felt it was more like extreme intelligence.
"I'm going to go to my room and colour.", Kimi said before darting up the stairs.
You watched the girl dash away - she was literally taller than some of the girls you went to school with in high school, and you'd almost swear she had better legs than some of them in her shorts. You quickly dismissed the thought. "Alright, I'll let you know when dinner's here. I'll be watching TV.", you called after her.
Choice A: The next day, Kimi has grown an inch taller and started to develop as she experiences a highly accelerated puberty to her body's natural unusual biology
Choice B: Kimi actually has a lab in her room that she assembled from a home chemistry kit and various household chemicals that her parents aren't aware of - and she'd made a formula that causes her to grown several inches taller and more developed in a matter of hours. She finishes the formula and takes her first dose right before dinner so that she can grow and mature in front of you.
Choice C: Something Else
