Virus

by: Mr. George Author IconMail Icon
No one knew where the virus originally came. Certainly nobody laid claim to having created it in a lab. However, it was clearly manufactured, and very particular in design. Naturally, as the first cases were in the US. They were accused of having created it. Their denials just as vociferous. The fired back accusations of weaponising diseases used on the general population demanding retribution.

Sadly, however, once it was in the wild. It mutated and spread. Far from staying an American problem, there were cases on every continent within a week. The progress starting slow, with general cold symptoms. Too easily dismissed, it was only later that the tiredness, and lethargy set in, that the particular strain could be confirmed. Far, far too late, to isolate the patient who'd have already spread it.

The outcomes varied, but the trajectory was always the same. A man would over the course of a week, turn into a woman.

Naturally, it had little (if any) effect on women. Who seemed to gain only a slight boost in their femininity. But, even that was under review. What was certain was they could be carriers. It was even seen as a source of amusement at first, being popular fare with the late night comedians. However, as the severity of the crisis struck home, and the reality of the consequences sank in, the jokes faded.

Conspiracies, and paranoi bred rapidly. Whole religions forming proclaiming this divine judgement in every faith on the planet. Seeing it as retribution for infidelity, either real or imagined. In any case the accusations stuck, and the denials dismissed. The evidence obvious, as the sprouting breasts, widening hips, and all the other evidence of infidelity, or lack of faith.
