Despite it being lunch time, and the peak hour for customers coming into the restaurant, Roy wanted to take a break. He was still unaware that he possessed the Goth girl’s body from head to toe, even though his personal style remained the same.
“I’m sick of working at this shithole,” Roy reflected, as he unconsciously went through the motions of handling customer orders and monitoring the other employees. “I’ve got this Role Swapper here, and it can give me any life I want. I know it works, so why stick around here any longer?”
“Lost in thoughts again, Roy?” A voice interrupted, and Roy turned to see the worker at the other register, a high school student named Josh. Considering Roy’s new body, Josh towered in height over him now.
Roy gritted his teeth. “That’s Mr. Milford to you, Josh.”
“Whatever, gramps. Shouldn’t you be checking inventories in the back or something?” Josh stated, after handing a tray of food to a customer.
“In a while. Say, Josh, do you mind covering for me while I go on a lunch break? I’ll be back in 30 minutes tops.” Roy said.
“What? Dude, you just got here like 45 minutes ago. My shift is almost over. Plus, you still owe me time from last Tuesday, remember?” Josh remarked.
“This isn’t really a request, kid. I’m the Assistant Manager, get it?” Roy said, folding his arms over his breasts and striking an authoritative pose. Ordinarily, Roy would look more imposing and serious than in his current state. Nevertheless, his high-school-age coworker relented, sighing and resuming Roy’s place at the front.
Roy sniggered to himself. His so-called ‘break’ won’t end for a long time. After today, he’ll never set foot in another Burger Bonanza again!
Roy tucked the Role Swapper against the hem of his work pants, now resized to fit his wider hips proportional to the rest of his body. His eyes poured over the restaurant once again, to be sure that the Goth girl was gone. Sure enough, Roy couldn’t see her and she must have left. However, Roy did meet eye contact with a lot of other restaurant patrons, some of which were eyeing Roy strangely. They couldn’t possibly have seen the swapping between the Goth girl and him… right?
Of course not, Roy reasoned. They might have simply overheard his chat with Josh. Roy smiled as he walked over to his locker, now closer to eye-level than before. He was relieved to find it locked and untouched since the last time he saw it. He gathered all of his personal items and stuffed them into his pockets. Walking out the front door, Roy felt more hopeful than he had in a long time.
What happens next?
