Chapter #5

The case of disappearing cats?

    by: DB7557 Author IconMail Icon
(In the last chapter it seems like Chris' gender was stated to be male, despite them being described as shy in chapter before which suggests them being a female according to character concepts... so I will stick with the earlier chapter's idea and keep Chris female)

"Huh? Did you all hear that?" Summer said, hearing the meow of a cat
"Yeah, you have a cat now Summer?"Asked Jamie
"Not as far as I know... Mouse, you didn't bring any strays again without asking anyone for approval?"Asked Summer looking with some doubt at her younger sister
"No!"Mouse replied, seeming honest

The group decided to go search for the source of the sudden meow, and it didn't take them long to find it. In the kitchen, there was a cat standing on the table, seemingly having entered through the window. The feline had a white fur, giving it certain noble look, it also seemed rather well looked after... strange, considering how it came from the outside. Summer also took notice of an odd collar around it's neck, it was solid black, with a strange symbol attached that Summer never seen before.

Upon seeing the 4 girls, the cat however quickly ran away through the window it came in from.

"It's gone... that was weird."Said Jamie
"I have seen that kitty before!" Mouse said all of a sudden
"Huh, where?" Asked Summer
"On a few posters in town, also on back of your newspaper!" Replied the younger of Salt sisters

Summer and others went back to the room, and the young sleuth picked up the newspaper she was checking earlier. Mouse was right! There was a photo of very similar looking cat on the back of it, it's collar was different, and didn't have a weird symbol, but without a doubt it was the same one!
"Now that I think... haven't there been more articles about cats running away than usual?"Asked Chris
"Good point... seems like we might have a case on our hands! Let's see who was the owner of our visitor today..." Said Summer and looked at the newspaper again, to see address of cat's owners...

"Uh-oh..."Said Summer after reading it
"What is it?"Asked Jamie
"It's Pao-Ting's address..." Summer replied
"Maybe she sent that cat to spy on us then!" Said Mouse
"Makes no sense, why would she report it lost if she planned to use it like that? If she was behind it, she would do her best to not be associated with disappearances at all." Said Summer

"So... are we going to her house?" Asked Jamie with some doubt, she knew that Summer and Pao-Ting were rivals, and chinese genius also knew Summer's biggest weakness... ticklishness of her feet.
*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
