The Lau family ran a tight ship, having kept up the family restaurant for years with their strict work ethic that allowed them to keep going. Even after the move to Abercrombie they kept that spirit up, the crowds of somewhat larger customers nothing they couldn’t handle.
<BUURP!>
Though you might not be able to tell that Mei Lau in even her older years was a woman on the go what with the… *goop* everywhere. Sitting in a recliner while a nonsensical soap opera played in the background she was a bit of a mess, several green stained tupperware boxes on the small table and another, goop filled one in her hands as she spooned another heaping glob into her green stained mouth.
Her and Julie had closed up the store earlier that afternoon and so Mei was relaxing like she usually did, having washed up and gotten cozy in a long, fuzzy baby blue robe and slippers to veg out in. Though the green substance she was devouring was a new addition to her nightly routine, having fallen in love from the moment she tasted it.
It had been a week since then and she had only fallen harder for the neon gunk, ordering double and triple shipments from Yeng. She wanted to make sure there was enough for her before the rest got experimented with for their cooking. She NEEDED to make sure she had enough, and “enough” seemed to not be enough each new day, which was already starting to show with the small pot belly she was starting to form.
As for what she didn’t eat, she had managed to find a few ways to work it into her dishes. One of the easiest she’s found to dry it out until it became hard and crackly before using a pestle and mortar to turn it into a spice that was now used in nearly every dish they made, but she’d also found just straight up offering it as a condiment or side dish quickly caught on too.
Customers were hesitant to try it at first, but with VERY enthusiastic endorsement from the Lau matron it didn’t take long for them to get just as hooked on the new ingredient, the restaurant seeing a boom like never before as people seemed to flood them everyday looking to get their hands one more goop laden foods.
And also like Mei, they were starting to round out rather quickly.
