This choice: Bri wants some help with her homework. • Go Back...Chapter #3Bri wants some help with her homework. by: Morphology Josh continued in his attempt to dry off and getting into some drier clothing before his overprotective mother caught him. He quickly found a blue, 'retro' looking 'School House Rock' T-shirt and slipped it over his head. Just in time too, because just then he heard a light rapping on his door. "Yeah?" He called out to the mysterious visitor behind the doorway. The door creaked open and in walked his youngest sister, Brianna, carrying her 3rd grade math book under her arm. "Hey there Bri, what's going on?" He asked as he picked up the drenched shirt and tossed it into the hamper across the room.
"Why are you wet?" She asked him as he eyed both him and the shirt that he recently tossed into the hamper. "What happened to your umbrella?"
"You probably wouldn't believe me if I told you." Josh sighed as he motioned her to his used office chair next to his desk. "Do you need help with something?" Bri nodded and caused her long brown hair to fall into her eyes.
"I need some help with these multiplication problems." She responded as she grabbed the rogue pieces of hair and brought them back behind her ear in an attempt to bring them back under her control. Bri then placed the book on the desk and opened it to the problems.
"Oh, it's not too bad." Josh chuckled as he went on to explaining the rules for multiplication and smiled when he saw his younger sister nodding, almost as if she understood what he was saying. "So you got it?"
"Yeah, I think I get it now. Just the way that she was explaining it." She then gestured her hand going over her head
"Yeah, they tend to over simplify things." Josh chuckled again and they sat in silence for several seconds before one of them began to talk once more.
"So, what happened to you today after you missed the bus?" Bri wondered as she continued to work on her math problems.
Josh knew he couldn't keep it to himself forever so he told her the story. How the rain seemed to come down in sheets, how he met up with the older lady that had the creaky walker, and how she gave him the 'gift'. "That's about it." Josh replied as he sighed in relief.
"So you don't really believe that mumbo jumbo, do you?" Bri laughed as she thought about magic. She had always been much more down to earth than her other siblings and didn't really believe in magic.
"Well, I haven't really had a chance to think about it." Josh sat back down on his bed and looked at the hamper that he tossed his clothes earlier.
Bri brought her nose closer to the paper, almost as if she was really getting into the math problems. Just as she did, her hair began to fall into her face once more. "I wish that this hair would just stay where it supposed to be." She grumbled as she brought it back behind her ear.
"Well, I would certainly take it off of your hands if I could." Josh said to her reassuringly as he gently patted her on her back to emphasize the point.
"And I would gladly give it to you." She chuckled as the both closed their eyes because of a blinding light filled the room. "What happened?" Bri asked as she brought her hands up to her head to relieve a scratch. What happened next would make her believe in magic. He once long, straight brown hair had turned into short, cropped hairstyle a boy would wear. "My hair!" She responded as she looked over at her brother who seemed to be having the same problem.
"Why do you have my hair and I have yours?" Josh wondered as he tried to get his new mane of hair under control.
"I don't know?" She replied as she continued to feel her hair. "You just said that you would take it off my hands if you could."
"And then the flash of light happened." Josh interrupted as he played the story out in his head. His new hair started to get in his eyes once more and he grew more aggravated with it. Taking it firmly in his hands, Josh balled it up and threw it behind him.
"You can't do that." Bri said angrily as she made her way over to him. "You're going to get it all knotted up. Maybe if we redo what happened, we can get out hair back." She suggested.
"I guess that could work." Josh agreed as he patted the bed right next to him so that she could sit down too. "I would gladly take it off of your hands if I could." Josh announced and closed his eyes as he anticipated the blinding light. After now seeing the light, he reopened his eyes. "What happened? Why didn't it work like it was supposed to?"
Bri sat there for a moment and thought about it. "Oh..." She squealed with delight. "And I would give it to you." The blinding light came back once more and after the two of them were able to come back to their senses, they brought their hands up to their heads to feel their hair. "I'm back to normal." Bri said happily as she bounced up and down on the bed.
"Me too." Josh replied back to her.
"I guess that lady did give you something." Bri said to her brother. "I guess we both have to agree for it to work." Josh sat there for a moment to think about what had just transpired. "But I do have something to ask of you." Bri turned to her brother and looked in his eyes. "I have a game tomorrow morning and I was wondering if I could borrow your hair so that it wouldn't get in my way."
"I guess I can." Josh answered back to her. "How long will I need to keep it for?"
"Well, the game is tomorrow afternoon, so I guess until bedtime tomorrow?" She suggested.
"I guess we can do that." Josh replied tentatively, but that seemed to be good enough for his new found power to work and the blinding light soon enveloped the two of them. He felt his new hair cascade down his shoulders to the middle of his back.
"I think I could enjoy this." Bri chuckled as she looked at her brother with her hairstyle on his head and noticed his grim look on his face. "Oh it's alright. I mean, it's not like I'm making you play in my place..."
Josh's eyes grew 2 sizes when he heard this. "No, that is one thing I'm not going to do." He replied as he brought his hands up to protect himself from something.
"It's not that bad, but we can certainly trade some other stuff and I'm sure you've always wanted to see what its like to be a girl." She suggested to him. "It might even get you a girlfriend."
"No, I'm perfectly happy being a guy and I'm just not ready to have a girlfriend yet." He announced as he folded his hands across his chest.
"Right..." She said smiling as she began to bait him into something. "I bet you're too scared to make another swap."
"I'm not scared." Josh announced proudly. "I'm sure I could handle almost anything." He stuck out his chest to show his bravery.
"Okay." Bri replied back to him. "How about we swap _________ and you can prove it to me." | Members who added to this interactive story also contributed to these: |
