Nilmini had her usual impish smile, the same smile that could make Dhasca melt instantly. Nilmini was the daughter of the royal healer, and they had known each other since childhood. In truth, she had been the princess' only friend as her father kept her fairly sheltered, and Dhasca didn't relate all that much to her younger brothers. Nilmini understood her in a way that others could not, and as they got older, their friendship became something more. At first, it was only the two of them experimenting with their feelings, but it had felt so right in that moment that they had never parted.
She was a tall, slightly taller than Dhasca, and broad-shouldered girl with a young and playful face. She was also a known trickster, who liked to play by her own rules. Unlike most elves, Nilmini had decided to chop off most of her hair when she was a young woman, much to the ire of her father. It had grown back, somewhat, into a messy pixie-cut. It gave her a boyish look that Dhasca loved very much.
Dhasca brushed the olive-colored skin of her lover's arm. "Please, tell me," she said. "I'm desperate at this point."
Nilmini was perhaps the stronger of the two personalities. She had been the first to confess her love, and would have been willing to openly admit it, if it weren't for the begging of Dhasca to keep it a secret. Much as she did love her, her father would never approve. With Nilmini, there was no way of producing heirs; it was just simple biology.
Nilmini only smiled again and straddled Dhasca, playfully pinning her down. She was not only the stronger personality, but the stronger one physically. As daughter to a healer, she had always been fairly strong and physically fit, not that Dhasca wasn't, but she was more on the thin and waif-like side. If there was one thing the princess loved the most, it was being held in those strong, protective arms.
"Well, these suitors only like you because of your rumored beauty and your singing voice," Nilmini began.
"Rumored?" Dhasca scoffed, feigning anger.
"Relax, you're the most gorgeous creature I know, but these guys only get to hear about it. Look, let's say that maybe you didn't live up to their expectations?"
Nilmini nuzzled her neck as she said this, sending a tingle down Dhasca's spine. Still, her words did not make sense. "What do you mean?" she asked nervously.
Her lover only shrugged, running her hands down Dhasca's sides and stopping at her hips. "Well, if you weren't as attractive as they were expected to believe, then maybe it would be they who turn you down. There's nothing your father can do about that."
That did make sense, she thought. If she was the one being rejected, rather than having to reject them, he would have to allow her to do as she pleased. It was tempting. "And just how am I supposed to make myself unattractive?"
She laughed. "Well, while that is going to be pretty hard to do, it's not like you can just stop bathing or fixing your hair. Your father would make you change all that back in an instant. We need something that's more...permanent."
Dhasca felt a little nervous. This didn't sound at all encouraging. "Like what?"
Nilmini rolled her eyes, realizing that hinting at it was getting nowhere. She sat up, and let her hands gently graze Dhasca's thin stomach. "Perhaps if you were a little...well, larger..."
Dhasca sat up, and the two elves were looking directly into each other's eyes. Was she hearing what she thought she heard. "You mean...get fatter?"
"Sure, these conceited losers only want a thin and beautiful princess they can parade around like a trophy. Once they see that that's off the table, they'd have to reject you."
The princess let Nilmini get off of her, and then bunched her knees to her chest. Something about this didn't feel right. She wanted to make herself smaller in this moment, and almost laughed realizing the irony, given what had been said. "Something wrong with that?" Nilmini asked, feeling like she had offended her.
"I don't know, it just feels like such an odd thing to do. It's not exactly, normal."
"Well, no, it's not, but then, these aren't normal circumstances," Nilmini said with a laugh.
"Would you still love me?" She asked that so suddenly, and covered her mouth as soon as it escaped her lips.
"What now?"
Dhasca took a deep breath. "I mean, you're talking about making me unattractive. Would you still find me attractive if I was...well, fat?"
Nilmini scooted up closer and put her arms around her partner. "You kidding? I would always love you, no matter what you looked like or what size you were. I'm just talking about what these other guys would think. To me, you could never be anything less than beautiful, inside and out."
She had tears in her eyes as she wrapped herself around her lover. "Thank you," was all she said.
Nilmini held her for a moment, but then laughed again. "Besides, I think you could use a little more meat on your bones." She playfully, and unsuccessfully, tried to grab at any body fat the girl might have. The princess really was a twig of a girl. "I can never say no to having more of you to love."
This made Dhasca feel better and she laughed too. "So, how is this supposed to work?" she asked tentatively.
Nilmini waved her off. "Easy," she said.
