Like usual, when she had a break from all the sorting and organizing and whatnot a librarian does, Ms. Rivera made a point to come sit down next to Dave. Her hips were twice as wide as the little chair she was sitting on, barely squeezing into it as it creaked under her immense weight, and Dave looked incredibly small beneath the tiger woman. He could feel the body height pouring off of her massive, plump figure.
“Good morning, mi amor,” she purred in that deep accent. She always called him ‘mi amor’ for some reason. He had no idea what that meant. “I see that you are in low spirits on this day. Almost added to someone’s menu, I presume?”
He sighed and nodded, and she clicked her tongue. She gently wrapped an arm around his shoulder, and rested his head against her soft side, letting his worries fade away amid her comfiness. “Oh, you poor dear. That must be a constant source of stress, hmm? All of the hungry bellies around, growling out for a boy like you,” she said. “I’m glad that you’re here and not inside one of them. Digestion is a very unpleasant experience, or so I’ve heard.”
“Yeah…” He frowned. He never wanted to ask this question, but he couldn’t get it out of his head right now. “Ms. Rivera, do you ever… eat any humans like me?”
She thought about how to respond for a while. “Well, I must assure you that this plump figure of mine is largely due to my love of sweets,” she said, laying a hand on her big, chubby, exposed potbelly, “but… I’d be lying if I said I never indulged in a more lively meal, now and then.”
His eyes widened, and his blood ran cold. Just when he thought he’d found a safe monster. “Really? Why?”
“The… satisfaction. There’s something so deeply satisfying and pleasurable about digesting one of you humans,” she said, almost longingly. “Some scientists claim that monsters are here to keep humans from overpopulating. We’re your natural predators. When we digest one of you, we’re fulfilling our natural purpose. It’s very gratifying.”
He shuddered at the implication that a human’s natural purpose, in turn, is to get stuffed into a tight monster gut and soaked in stinging stomach acids. “Would you ever eat… me?”
Again, she thought about it. “On the one hand… you have so much potential, mi amor. You’re such a handsome boy, and so much more intelligent and creative than your peers. It’d be a tragedy to get rid of all that.” He breathed a sigh of relief, even blushed as she called him ‘handsome’. But then she got this hungry look in her eyes.
“On the other hand… it’s also a satisfying thought in its own way. There’s something pleasing about the idea of erasing a little boy like yourself from the world using my tummy… all that potential, destroyed inside of here.” she confessed, sounding like she enjoyed the idea a little too much. She was squeezing her belly now, as if imagining him inside of it, and his heart dropped as it quietly growled. “So yes, it would be very fun to end you in my belly. But… I don’t think I will any time soon, mi amor. You entertain me too much. After all, who else visits this library every day?”
To his relief, instead of eating him, she released her grip on his shoulder. He leaned as far away from her in his seat as possible without seeming rude. “Now, enough of those uncomfortable subjects,” she said, suddenly returning to normal. “Why don’t you read me a poem? I see you’ve been working hard on one. What’s it about?”
