The school nurse, Madam Isa, was a seasoned witch. She worked to offer first aid for the normals, those unaware of magic or mad science, and to give counseling to young witches and mad scientists alike who attended the school. You walked into her office to find her getting ready to leave for home. Madam Isa was an Amazon of a woman with long auburn hair, tied into a pony tail, and gentle blue eyes. She noticed you and smiled. "Good afternoon, Miss Mage." Kindly, she said. "How was your year at Cauldron Academy?"
"It went well, Madam Isa." Politely, you replied. "However, Joe has gone missing." You winced, adding, "I questioned Lydia Rune and she told me he was sent here near the end of the day."
"That he was." Serious, Isa replied. "He was experiencing symptoms of that time. I wrote him an excuse to leave school early."
You knew that Isa was referring to Joe discovering his flame or spark, depending upon which power was stronger within him. Magic would bring a harmless blue flame to his left hand and mad science would bring a spinning globe of energy. "He did not return home." Serious, you said. "Do you know if he left on his own or if someone picked him up?"
"He did not return home?" Worried, Isa asked. "Oh dear..." She reached into her bag and pulled out a copy of an excuse paper, required by her to avoid magically or chaotically forged passes. "Joe left the school about an hour before school ended." Serious, she explained. "He left..."
