Chapter #5Yukiko’s Taste Tester by: Gator   Yosuke stared at the abomination on the plate before him.
The unnatural green blob failed to keep all of it’s organs contained. A carrot that jabbed out from it's top looked like it had been scarred in the acid blood of an alien. Another one he couldn’t tell if it was a flimsy bone or a rat’s tail. An eye – a fish’s, maybe? – stared right back up at him with an almost pleading look, like it yearned to be put out of it’s misery. Ghostly green pus seeped out from any space left between the exoskeleton and the protrusions, like it was bleeding. And he could swear he saw it flinch when he poked with his fork.
The sight made Yosuke wish he was working the busiest hours at Junes instead. The nervous teen began eyeing up the window across the room as a possible escape route, but with the creator of this monstrosity hanging over his shoulder he knew he wouldn’t get far. So instead his mind drew back to how he had gotten into this horrible situation in the first place.
In two weeks, Yu Narukami would be returning to Inaba for Golden Week. The news had sent every member of the Investigation Team into a buzz; each one of them diligently preparing for their leader's return in their own ways. Except for Teddie, who droned on and on about all the expensive things they could buy Yu. With Yosuke’s money, of course.
Yukiko Amagi had, to the detriment of all mankind, decided to improve her cooking skills and make her beloved Yu-kun the greatest meal he would ever taste in his entire life. She had bribed him into being the taste tester of the prototype, which was currently sitting before him, with free use of the Amagi Inn hot springs for a month. Apparently Chie and Kanji were busy, but anyone would be “busy” when it came to Yukiko’s cooking.
He, foolishly, had thought it would be simple enough. One little bite and that’d be it. But in hindsight, as his eyes once again fell back on her creation, he had definitely underestimated just how bad the heiress’ cooking could get. Even the tiniest bit looked like it could kill him.
Yukiko tilted her head at her friend’s hesitation. “Come on, Yosuke-kun!” She urged, determination shining in her dark brown eyes. She had spent all day and a great quantity of the finest ingredients on this. She needed her meal to be absolutely perfect for Yu-kun. And if her taste tester didn’t test how could she make it perfect?
Growing impatient, she snatched a fork and stabbed into the blob. Air escaped as she yanked out a chunk, sounding to Yosuke like a quiet wail of imaginable agony. She brought it to his lips, which clamped solidly shut at the view of the dripping blob pierced by metal. “Here!” Yukiko ordered, fed up with his stalling. “Eat!”
With the heiress’s angry glare bearing into him, Yosuke swallowed down the bile in his throat and finally decided to bite the bullet. Or in this case, the food that made Mystery Food X look delicious in comparison. Uneasy, he leaned forward and opened his mouth to accept the spawn. His lips sealed around the fork and dragged the slimy glob off the utensil.
It flopped onto his tongue.
Instantly he fell off his chair and crumpled onto the floor, foaming at the mouth and his eyes rolling back into his head.
Yukiko glanced down at her unconscious friend, and sighed sadly to herself. “I didn’t think your body would be that weak, Yosuke-kun…”   indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
