You won't make any progress in the tavern. New players would be just as clueless as you are, while those veterans are just as likely to be a threat than a help. You're also not sure you want to start with actual quests in just your starting gear either. It's decided then, you'll take some odd jobs around the city to buy upgrades for your starter set. Then you'll pick your next course of action. Once you exit the tavern, you find yourself in the midst of a bustling city, much grander than that tavern-npc let on. Just looking around you see several other taverns and inns, homes, healers and a circle of wagons circled around what you assume is the main square. Further, you can see the rooftops of many different guild halls, with the spires of what you guess is the famed grand academy far in the distance. Players and NPCs of all shape and sizes crowd the streets, either returning from an adventure, departing on one, or just looking for some fun within the safe(r) walls of the citadel. Walking towards the city gate, hoping you'll find directions to the shopping district there, you manage to catch snippets of gossip from your fellow players. You learn about a dragon, rumored to roost high within the mountains (+2 exp), a farm that mysteriously cut all contact with the rest of society, no one sent to investigate has yet returned (+2 exp), and about the ill fate of a group of new adventurers who specced too much into libido, their leader apparently enslaved by a common chicken (+1 exp).
You arrive at the main gate before long, luckily not having drawn too much unwanted attention to yourself. You quickly make your way to one of the many town maps posted around and happily discover that the city's main storefront is located right next to the main gate. Probably to help adventurers quickly unload any loot they managed to pick up and restock before heading out into the more dangerous wilderness again. You quickly look through the different kinds of stores. There's shops specializing in weapons, equipment, potions, magic, sex toys, a pet store,... Too many to read through, you quickly decide.
You decide to just walk down the street and look around, to see if anything catches your fancy. The first shop that catches your eye, isn't actually one. A large wide barn, with a sign picturing a bipedal lizard riding a bear marks it as the city's stable. You know mounts have got to be expensive, and any job here will thus probably pay well. Then again, most of the work will probably include back-breaking labor, not exactly what you'd imagined doing in a fetish-game. Plus, you only have a strength stat of 5...
