Chapter #5Tiny Tests With Caitlin by: Haro-Haze ***"Hi, my name is Barry Allen and I am the fastest man alive. I use to be an ordinary forensic scientist working with the SCPD then one day an accident made me the impossible. Now I work in secret with the help of my new friends at S.T.A.R Labs using my speed to fight crime and help find others Metahumans like me. I am the Flash!"***
Almost a year has passed since the notorious explosion of S.T.A.R Labs Particle Accelerator which lead to the rise of countless Metahumans, but it also gave birth to Central City's greatest hero. Since then Barry and his team have neutralized threats to Central City such as Clyde Martin, Danton Black, and Kyle Nimbus. Every adversary forcing Barry to push his speed to greater and greater heights.
In reality Barry and his team understood little about his powers including what pushing them to their maximum could be causing inside his body, it's for that very reason that Dr. Caitlin Snow saw it fit to call Barry into the laboratory for a routine physical.
For the Flash a routine checkup with Dr. Snow meant running a few hundred miles on Cisco’s specialized speed treadmill clocking in about 657 miles per hour as a standard pace. With each battle Barry only seems to get faster and faster, which was the cause for Caitlin’s alarm in the first place.
During the better half of an hour Caitlin noticed no discrepancies in Barry Allen’s health, his vitals were well within the parameters for someone like him. But since modern medicine had yet to study Metahumans Caitlin decided that prolonged tests were necessary until she could be sure that Barry’s powers came with few side effects aside from an overclocked metabolism and the inability to get drunk.
Then at the height of the hour S.T.A.R Labs experienced a power surge, much like the one that occurred during the Particle Accelerator event. However this time it was worth noticing that the water in her glass began to levitate in mid air, much like the scene Barry described the night his mother Nora was murdered. Caitlin turned to the screens in a panic, Barry’s vitals were dropping faster with each passing second, meanwhile his speed steadily decreased.
She tried looking inside the lab for visual confirmation that Barry was okay but saw nothing aside from a layer of white smoke fogging the glass. The bioengineer jumped to her feet and ran into the lab to check in on her patient, opening the door first thinking that Barry had completely vanished into thin air. Felicity was right, Barry had run so fast that he’d turned to dust inside his costume, except for the fact that the costume was also missing.
*Meanwhile in Barry’s POV*
The last thing Barry remembered was running tests for Caitlin Snow when suddenly the room was enveloped in a thick mist. He almost worried that Nimbus might have escaped the pipeline and was trying to kill him again before realizing that the mist was non-toxic.
Barry jumped off the treadmill and made a run for the down, thinking only of saving Caitlin from the smoke before anything else went wrong. However he didn’t realize that something far worse than a little smokescreen was going on here.
He heard to door open and followed the sound of Caitlin’s voice as she called his name “Barry! Barry, where are you?” she yelled, her voice piercing the speedsters eardrums.
“Caitlin, I’m right here.” Barry answered, thinking Caitlin was only a few feet in front of his face. Little did he know that he was only partially correct in his assumption.
“Barry, can you hear me?” Caitlin called out again, seemingly ignorant to Barry’s response to her concern. Then from the smoke appeared a shadowy figure in front of Barry, which he at first assumed was Caitlin walking towards him.
“Caitlin, there you are.” Barry said, taking a few more steps before a gigantic foot appeared from the smoke, landing inches in front of Barry’s face, the pale white toes wiggling on top of a wooden surface as the impact of an enormous high heel knocked barry onto his back.
“Caitlin?” Barry asked himself, his eyes working their way up a pair of long white legs that disappeared under a blue dress as the smoke exited the room through the door Caitlin opened. It only took a few seconds for the smoke to completely dissipate, revealing a simply gigantic Dr. Caitlin Snow to the newly shrunken Barry Allen.
His eyes stared up at his new friend with unblinking disbelief, shrinking matter had always be disregarded by scientists as an impossibility but this instance proved that it could be done. He just wished it didn’t have to happen to him.
“Caitlin!” Barry yelled in an attempt to get the towering woman’s attention, estimating that he was about an inch tall based off of Caitlin’s current height. Nevertheless his efforts seemed to yield results as Caitlin’s eyes wandered towards her feet, in front of which stood a little red speck.
“Barry?” she asked surprised, bending down to inspect what she suspected was a tiny Barry Allen. Meanwhile Barry was still awestruck by her incredible size, trying to resist his fight or flight instinct as her fingers reached down, pinching him between her thumb and pointer finger before lifting him to her face under the gaze of her hazel colored eyes.
“I didn’t think this was possible?” Caitlin said.
“When you run the heat you generate causes your atoms to separate, allowing you to move at greater and greater speeds. Prolonged use of your speed must have trigger pushed them to the point where they could no longer separate and forced them to rejoin thus shrinking you to this size.” Caitlin explained, carrying Barry outside of the speed lab.
“Can you reverse it, return me to my normal size?” Barry asked, not wanting to be both the fastest and the smallest man alive for the rest of his life. He could hide his speed from Iris but something told him that he couldn’t hide his size from her. That is if she even saw him before she stepped on him or sat on him accidentally.
“I think I can, but not without the properly connected data about how closely your structure has been compressed together. If I over calculate it could tear you apart but if I underestimate the results you could shrink even further.” Caitlin continued to explain, neither option seemingly appealing.
“So what do you need, a blood test?” Barry asked, not sure of how Caitlin intended to treat someone so tiny.
"Not exactly, any sample I took from you would either be too much for your body to handle losing or would require an electron microscope to view. So I'll have to conduct more direct tests." Caitlin stated, looking down at Barry with a concerning look in her big brown eyes.
"What do you mean?" Barry asked, not liking the way Caitlin phrased her words.
"What I mean is that in order to find out exactly how dense your body is I'll have to conduct hours of testing where me and you are in direct contact with one another. Otherwise my results could be miscalculated and we run the risk of you never returning to your normal size." Caitlin said, walking into her lab in the Cortex.
"Caitlin, don't I get a decision in all of this?" Barry asked, but he wasn't met with a verbal answer. Instead Caitlin choose to walk towards her desk, ignoring his question all together.
"Okay Barry, I promise that I'll try to keep this from getting as unpleasant as possible, first I'd like to test your density by ____________."
1. "...dropping you in my shoe while I'm out picking up supplies." Caitlin picks up a pair of worn sneakers from underneath her desk, taking off her heels and dropping Barry inside her shoe to act as her new insole while she's out of the lab.
2. "...putting you on my chair and sitting on you while I work, writing my findings down on scrap paper so Cisco and Dr. Wells don't think anything is up." Caitlin uses Barry as her own personal seat cushion, ignoring his cries for help as she brings her butt down on his puny body.
3. "...putting you (Caitlin's cell phone rings)." A call from Cisco results in Caitlin needing to leave to meet with him, Iris, and Eddie at their favorite bar. Leaving her too make up an excuse for Barry's absence, hiding him in her bra cup for safe keeping while she begins drinking with their friends. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
