You whipped out the shrink ray and pointed it at Derek, and without any kind of warning you fired it at him.
The ray shot out of the end of the device right as Derek moved to grab something out of his backpack, causing the ray to miss him, hit your cars side mirror and recoil back at you. Instantly the ray began taking effect upon you, shrinking you down to about an inch tall in height.
You opened your eyes after being temporarily blinded by the rays light to immediately see what just happened to you. Everything around you is now ginourmous compared to you. It was all so much to take in, but there was little time for that as you see your now gigantic teenage son Derek who unknowingly moved out the way right in time to not be shrunk.
Derek was making his way to the side of the house to grab a textbook out of his backpack to try and say something like "Dad I was going to study today...." or something like that. But none of that matter now as Derek walked back around the side of the house to the driveway. He saw no sight of his angry father.
He was very much confused as he looked in all directions to where you could be. But you were nowhere in sight.
(What happens next?)
1. He noticed the shrink ray just laying there on the driveway, he was confused as he approached it. Then upon looking down at it he saw a tiny little "bug" jumping up and down right near it. Upon that sight he began to put two and two together
2. Turns out not only did you shrink but the blast to the side mirror had also caused your car to shrink. Which upon seeing no car in the driveway Derek assumes you just left to work or something.
3. Derek's thought process is interrupted as someone calls out to him.
