You often preferred to do your patrols on foot, allowed you to see more and notice details that you would've missed any other way. Lukas had joined you, both of you knowing no one would notice he was there. He sat in the "charm" hanging from your necklace and looked about, enjoying your time together. You knew the real reason was he didn't want to be alone.
During your patrol, you found yourself stopping at a diner where one of the missing humans had disappeared. Lukas winced at the thought of going inside but you assured him it'd be fine. As you entered, you grabbed a menu and gave it a look over. You weren't actually hungry but were more wondering if by chance human was on the menu.
"They wouldn't just announce it. It'd be one of those Special menus." Lukas says, knowing where your mind was.
You nodded and set the menu down but still took a seat at the counter. A waitress, pink dragon, stayed up to you and smiled. "Hello good looking, what can we get for your today?" She asks with a wink.
"Plain coffee, please." You respond as you pick up the newspaper from the counter. She skates off and soon returns with the coffee.
You had a hunch something wasn't right as you took subtle glances about the diner. It wasn't crowded. And the food smelled horrible but the few patrons present seemed like they couldn't get enough of the meals.
The waitress skates up to again. "Anything else for ya today, Sugar?" She asks.
You smirk. You had an idea but it might be frighten Lukas a little. He'd forgive you, you reasoned before turning to the pink dragoness. "Now somewhere where a guy might be able to..." you pause and whisper the last bit to her. "get a freshly caught human cooked up?"
Lukas begins struggling hard in the little cage. Either he's picked up on your plan and is playing along, or he's fearing for his life. The waitress gives you a dark smirk as she leans in close. "I'm sure Cooky could make just the thing." She says with a wink before skating off.
You quickly send a text to your partner on the force who was only a block away. Requesting his presence immediately to the diner.
The waitress soon returns as hands you a small slip of paper. It had a handful of dishes that were prepared with human as the main ingredient. You took your time eyeing the menu, trying to stall for your partner to arrive. Just as you were about to be forced into a choice, you hear the dragon you were waiting for enter.
Within moments, he's made his arrests and turns his attention to you. "Just patrolling, eh Morgan?" He asks. His scales are dark green and his uniform is a standard issued police uniform. He laughs slightly before pointing at your necklace. "Think you might need to tell Lukas something." He laughs before heading out.
You glance down and your eyes widen at the sight. Lukas had blanked out from fear and worry. "Lukas!" You call down before sliding the little guy into your hand. He seems to be coming around from your voice. With a sigh of relief you explain that it was just a ruse. He yells at you for a bit and you just stand there and take it.
After awhile, you head over to the agency you worked for and checked in with your higher ups. Stowed away in the kitchen were a handful of the missing humans. But several more were still missing.
