Chapter #6

Size goes down, strength goes up

    by: Kooplan Author IconMail Icon
Mia was on a mission. A mission to get ever stronger. The blue-haried girl had screwed up the day before, making a grave mistake in battle that nearly cost her everything. Luckily, her allies were there to help her. But ever since, she'd felt so weak and powerless. Mia was determined to make sure that she'd never be in such a situation ever again.

That's why, when she heard about a legendary sword from a rumor in a nearby town, Mia was fiercely determined to find it and reclaim her honor as a fighter. The rumor went that long ago a mystic and blacksmith worked together to make a sword so powerful that it would defeat anyone it cut in a single blow, however the legend went on to state that the inexperienced mystic had messed up the enchantment of the blade somehow, and so, even though the sword was unbelievable in power, it was hidden away, never to be used. The way Mia heard it though, was that the sword was hidden in nearby ruins.

Mia could hardly believe the tale when she was told it, but was desperate to prove herself, not only to her allies, but to herself as well. And so, the young blue-haired swordswoman set out from camp one night to find the legendary sword by herself. Lucky for her, the same fortune teller who told her the story also had a rather detailed map showing how to find the ruins, but the sword's location was unknown.

With the map in her hands, Mia had made it to the ruins of old. Mia then spent the next few hours searching the ruins for any sign of the old sword. It should've been easy enough, she figured, the walls and ceiling of the decrepit ruins had long since crumbled, so that wasn't much to search though. But as her luck would have it, Mia was coming up empty in her search.

"Dang it!" Mia cursed, kicking some rubble over. But just as Mia was about to give her search a label of "wild goose chase", Mia noticed that under the rubble she kicked over was a bit of shining steel. Mia gasped and got down on her knees to dig out the rubble. When she cleared it, there was no doubt that it was a sword down there, although it should've been covered in dirt and dust, it was shining brilliantly in the moonlight.

"Heck yeah!" Mia exclaimed, all giddy with excitement all over again. She grabbed the sword and held it up triumphantly, but something felt wrong. Mia lowered the sword and examined it. It didn't feel any more powerful than any other sword she'd ever used before, in fact, it didn't feel like anything special at all.

"Hmm..." Mia rubbed her chin, deep in thought about if this was indeed the sword of legends.

"Huh?!" A male voice called from behind Mia. Mia turned around, sword in hand, and saw a Daein soldier had come out of the woods and was charging right at her! "You're one of those mercenaries! You and your friends killed my buddies!" He screamed and readied his attack with his axe.

"Uh-oh!" Mia cried. But then she felt her new sword, and grinned. "Or... maybe this is a good test..."

Mia charged at the Daein, holding her sword tightly and prepared to strike. Mia was amazed at what happened next, in a flash, the blue-haired girl caught up to her opponent, catching him well off-guard. Mia surprised herself with her agility, but quickly reacted to her swift steps and slashed at the Daein with her blade. Her sword struck strongly, and in the next instant, the Daein was felled. Mia gasped at what just happened.

"Unbelievable!" Mia exclaimed ecstatically, but in almost disbelief. She paused, something felt weird in her, but she ignored it and then looked down at the sword she was holding, then she held her new sword up triumphantly. This time, it felt like holding a truly legendary sword. "I'm so strong!"

Just then, a group of enemy soldiers appeared out of the woods and were already preparing to strike Mia, having seen their slain ally at her feet. But the lithe blue-haired girl was too fast for them and swiftly dodged, and then countered their attacks with a swing of her blade. Once again, one strike was all it took, for each opponent of hers. Mia felt weird again after every blow, but ignored it again, though she did notice how oddly large the last of the soldiers was. But after she cut him down she was just too excited about beating such a giant in a single blow that she didn't think too much about it.

"Yeesss!" Mia was very excited to be wielding such power. She swung her blade confidently through the air several times to get a feel for it. "You're going to work very well."

Mia giggled. She was very happy with her find and wanted to it show off to everyone, and so put the blade into its sheathe and headed back to the campsite.

It was then that Mia noticed something odd. Before she had no trouble navigating the small ruins, but now she had to step over some of the bigger piles of rubble. Mia wasn't sure what that was about and decided to not pay it much mind. She headed back to camp through the forest. On her way she noticed that, even though she was sure she was going back exactly the same way as before, everything looked slightly off somehow. Mia slowed down to take it in, and thought for a moment that things were looking bigger somehow.

This is weird. Maybe it has something to do with those weird feelings before.. Mia thought.

Needless to say, Mia hadn't yet put it together that she and her sword had been shrinking every time she used the new blade to attack. The unaware blue-haired girl was already several inches shorter then usual, and would continue to reduce every time she attacked with the legendary sword. But when does Mia discover this side-effect?

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. When a large group of enemies ambush her in the woods

*Noteb*
2. Later when in battle or training

3. Mia doesn't notice it yet

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
