This choice: Wait in place until someone arrives. • Go Back... I should wait here, Elen concluded. It will be much safer.
It was a sensible decision. At her size, wandering around the tower was just too dangerous. Remaining near her staff was also the best way to be spotted. She only hoped it could be anyone from the Lycian army, instead of the rebels. With a sigh, Elen approached her staff. Next to the staff’s orb she sat, still finding her current situation hard to believe. If only she had been more careful! She had become so worried about being lost that she forgot to be on the lookout if any given corridor was one where the Heavenly Arrows could course through. She only had herself to blame.
Just then, a faint whooshing sound was heard. Elen stood back up, filling with worry, as the sound got stronger. Just then, a flash of light quickly soared overhead. It was another arrow, too far high (from her new perspective) to hit her. Although due to its speed, and her own size, she still felt a strong gust of wind. She watched it pass by, then soon flying out of her view.
She sat back down, with another sigh. If there was something positive out of the whole ordeal, is that she no longer had to worry about the arrows. A small relief that failed to really lift her spirits up, considering why that was the case in the first place. However, it made her think on the matter.
I do hope an arrow doesn’t fly if someone does come, Elen thought. That was her biggest worry of waiting. At best she understood, the arrows would fire at intervals, but they wouldn’t always appear at any given position, for that was left to chance. Otherwise, it would be easy to evade them. Even without considering they shrunk her, did their activation showed the desperation of the rebels? It was as much a detriment for the rebels as it would be for her comrades. Regarding the latter, had any of them had fallen into her same predicament? That wasn’t a very comforting thought. Hopefully that wasn’t the case. Regardless, the probabilities of being spotted by a friendly face didn’t seem to be in her favor.
Therefore, she resorted to one of the few things she could do: pray to Saint Elimine herself. If there was anyone that could help her right now, it was her. She clasped her hands together, close to her heart, and closed her eyes.
Oh, Saint Elimine, hear my words, she began. Please help this servant of yours in her time of need. Do not permit harm to befall her.
Surely it wouldn’t matter her current size. Saint Elimine would be able to hear her thoughts. Elen had not doubt about it. Specially while being in her own tower.
Unbeknown to her, someone was near her position; and getting ever closer to the hallways she was in. Perhaps her prayer has been heard after all; but was it true? indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
