Chapter #5

The Smallest Mistake causes the biggest distress

Just in the midst of his thoughts a shrew and irritating voice rang throughout Ken’s research lab catching his attention.

Oh wooow! I didn’t see this place before! What’s with all the weird colors everywhere!” He said excited, going out of his way to touch each and every flask without a care in the world.

Oh, dear god. Anybody but him. How did he even get in here? It’s not like Ken left the door open or so he thought he did. Kokichi was pretty much the only person that grinds against everyone’s skin. Ken included. It didn’t help that Kokichi goes out of his way to irritate him as well. So Of course, Monokuma would probably have left him get access to his lab too. There’s no other possibility. How could he not account for this. He needed to address this nuisance. Quickly.

What. Are. You-

Ken! I didn’t think I find you in here!” Kokichi cut him off. Ken groaned. This was already turning into an ordeal.

Of course, I would be here! How did you even get here in the first place?!” He snarled.

Kokichi continued to wander around blatantly ignoring Ken who chased him, making sure he doesn’t break or take anything. It practically became a game to Kokichi as he ran away, making certain contraptions fall, pulling lab trolleys to block Ken all the while Ken struggles to come near him, berating Kokichi the whole way through. After an onslaught of questions from Ken & Kokichi’s blatant disregard they soon found themselves in front a giant contraption. Tubes that go on like roller coasters labelled with symbols that only Ken would understand and panorama of flowing colors all leading to a single almost empty vial.

Ken’s biggest accomplishment. His shrinking serum that bestowed his Ultimate talent. A dangerous yet commendable feat that Ken etches to his soul. A dangerous item that Kokichi is speeding to which was far too dangerous to fall into his hands. Ken tried hard to catch up to the small deranged artichoke but the constant running & trolley assaults had tired him out.

Wait! Just don’t-” Ken tried to yell but his poor athleticism caught up with him and had to catch his breath out of necessity.

Kokichi heard the scientist’s half-warning while heading closer to the biggest experiment he’s probably ever seen. Obviously, it’s not like Kokichi was going to drink it or anything but he had to know. There was no he was gonna trust whatever small leeway the killing game would give. A killing game’s a killing game like he would let Ken pull a fast one on him.

Well… Well… Well…” Kokichi pondered, grabbing being careful not to let any of it spill to Kokichi’s hand. “What do we have here?” Despite only touching the glass… There was something about the liquid which simply screamed volatile. A looming fear creeping down his spine… Just what exactly is he holding in his hand. Perhaps now he’s in the mood for questions.

As Ken quickly regains his composure, he looks few steps ahead with Kokichi spinning the vial like fidget spinner looking unenthused.

So how did you manage to get a whole lab down here?” Kokichi questioned. Ken kept his silence a little bit out of spite. Kokichi smirks in response. “So now you clam up huh?

Ken tried to think… Not knowing how to get out the situation. Clearly, he was busted. If Kokichi blabbed about the lab he would be completely fucked. Maybe even be outed by Monokuma and be the biggest scorn in the eyes of the killing game. Sure his intellect is higher than the rest of the cast. No doubt about it but Himiko could probably overpower him if she tried. And being Kokichi’s little lapdog to make his trap shut is a fate worse than death. Not like he could kill Kokichi now, his ability scurry away like a rat is already noteworthy so Ken acquiesces…

I can be very convincing.” Ken answered in the vaguest way possible. Even if Kokichi checkmated him. Ken could gain some comeuppance at least for his hubris. This in turn was close to aggravating to Kokichi especially with Ken’s little non-lies but decided not to show it. Ken was faster than most to get up to speed so Kokichi entertains.

Oh really. Even our headmaster is just ok with you having this research lab. Completely stocked and pretty huge compared to Kaede’s puny one. Just for you? If I had to guess I’d say it takes a bit more than convincing Monokuma to let you have this.” Kokichi theorizes as he stops spinning the vial. “Since you’re hell-bent on not telling me I guess you wouldn’t mind if I took this

NO!” Ken yells cutting Kokichi off this time, a deep scowl molding his face.

Oh, come on… Not much of an Ultimate Scientist if you can’t make more.” Kokichi mocks, waving the vial from side to side. Ken’s frustrations grew, as if Supreme Leader is a talent of any worth.

However, when Kokichi opened the vial and towards his lips was the moment Ken started to panic. It would take weeks before making another decent amount of the shrinking serum and rushed to grab the vial no matter how futile his efforts will be. Getting into a scuffle that Kokichi himself didn’t expect let a small drip of the serum drop into a huge puff of orange smoke as one of the two ended up shrunken down.
