Evan stared at the thick, brown, grainy sludge in his cup. It was one of the meal replacement shakes Jake had prescribed to him. It was filled of powders and ancient grains and God knows what. The svelte swimmer wrote out the instructions and had plenty of the ingredients shipped to Evan's apartment. All he had to do was mix it up and suck it down.
The lion took another small mouthful. It tasted like old dirt. Plugging his nose, he brought the cup to his lips and pounded down as much as he could muster. Evan nearly gagged but he was able to drink half of the shake. He sighed seeing how much was left. Taking the rest of the shake to the living room, Evan figured he could nurse the rest while watching television.
If it wasn't bad enough that the shakes tasted awful, it also had the effect of leaving Evan incredibly bloated all the time. His belly was in a semi-permanent state of feeling full to the point of bursting. Evan's shirts covered embarrassingly little of the dome of his gut, and the poor lion could hardly see he toes past the mass.
"That's the probiotics doing their work!" Jake had assured Evan. "They scrubbing your body clean of all those toxins! And judging by how much you're blimped up, you must of had a load of toxins in you!"
The lion gently rested a paw on his painfully swollen belly as he eased himself down onto the couch. Grabbing the remote, he flipped on the television. Knives of Justice VII was playing and that was just as good as anything to mindlessly watch as he tried to drink the rest of this "healthy" shake.
The program went to a commercial break. A cow dressed in overalls popped up on the screen.
"Jen and Barry's has all new flavors of ice cream available now! Check out Chocolate Cacophony! Caramel Collision! And Fudge Tribulation! Get them at your local grocery store! C'mon! Get MOOving!"
Evan whimpered seeing the ice cream. It had been weeks since he had any. Jake's diet plan was incredibly strict, and the lion wasn't suppose to have any sweets at all. But ice cream was his absolute favor. Maybe a little bit wouldn't hu-
He shook his head. "No. Gotta stick to this diet. Gotta stick to this..." Evan glanced down at the muck in his cup. "...diet. God, this stuff is terrible. Maybe I can bring it up with Jake to make his whole diet plan more...palatable."
