stumbling to a halt, she still had control of it?!

To the Collector's surprise and frustration, Paulette's body did not become a separate entity from her head and wander into the woods never to be seen nor heard from again, as was common. Nor did it collapse it lose all of its motor functions and senses before collapsing into an only technically alive heap of meat and organs as was uncommon. Instead, Paulette's body reacted in the most rare manner, remaining completely under the young woman's control. While the Head Collector prided herself on her magical prowess, magic was still magic, and magic was never an exact science. Otherwise, it would be science and not magic.

Paulette stumbled to a stop several meters beyond the tripwire, felt around the empty space where her head had been in disbelief, then she quickly spun in the direction of her head and scrambled for it. The Head Collector cursed her bad luck, not only for Paulette's unusual reaction to decapitation but also that her head had just so happened to land facing her body giving her an easy way to find herself. Leaping from cover and making a mad dash for Paulette's head, the Collector also cursed herself for not reacting sooner. If she hadn't been so surprised, she probably could've gotten to Paulette's head first and made off with it already. Instead, Paulette was the first to reach it, pressing her head back down against her neck before turning to face the sound of the Collector's footsteps and lowering herself into a practiced judo stance in preparation for The Collector's attack. "Bring it on, witch!" She snarled.

"Great. She knows how to fight, too." The Collector thought. "Could my luck get any worse?"

As it turns out, her luck...
