The sunlight glinted off her wrinkled gray skin, giving her an ethereal glow. She let out a deep, rumbling chuckle that seemed to echo across the savannah. "Ah, you're awake, are you?" she asked, her voice as warm and familiar as the earth beneath your feet.
Without waiting for a reply, she lowered her massive head and wrapped her trunk around you, lifting you up into the air in a playful embrace. "Happy birthday, mom," you said, her breath tickling your ear. "You've made this old elephant feel so very loved." Tears welled up in your eyes as you hugged her tightly, breathing in the scent of her musty skin and damp fur. "I love you too, Mara," you whispered, your voice barely audible above the song of the birds. "You're the best mother anyone could ever ask for."
Your heart swelled with pride as she set you down gently on the ground, her trunk snaking around to dab at her eyes. "Well," she said, sniffing softly, "there is one thing you could do for me. on my birthday"
Intrigued, you leaned in closer. "What's that, mom?"
Mara looked at you with her wise, deep-set eyes, a gentle smile playing at the corners of her lips. "Well, you see," she began, "I've been meaning to ask you this for a while now... I have an itch. An itch I just can't reach." She gestured toward the spot, "Right here. And I was hoping... well, I was hoping you could help me with it."
