Megan groaned as she hoisted her legs over the side of her bed. Ughh... she thought as she unlocked her phone and scrolled through the multitude of ’I miss you’ texts that Hannah had sent during her late night booze binge. She’d known from the moment she’d decided to settle down and date a so-called normal chick things would go to crap. She yawned loudly as she dialled Hannah’s cell, sighing as the call connected.
“Hey.”
“Hiya, babe!” Megan slapped her forehead in exasperation- this girl always seemed to be a pent up ball of energy that neither needed to sleep nor could tell when someone wasn’t in the mood to talk. “What’s cooking good-looking? No, that’s corny. What’s shaking bacon? Nope, not good enough, forget that... Oh, how you d-...”
“HANNAH! Hannah! Chill, ok? Calm it down before you get a nervous breakdown! Geez! You don’t always need to introduce yourself like that. What’d you want anyway?”
“Oh, nothing much. Just wanted to say hi to the cutest girl in the world.” Megan mimed a gagging expression as Hannah carried on. “Just wanted to call and ask if you’d done anything for me, you know, considering the date and all...” Hannah squealed excitedly from her end of the line. Megan meanwhile was struggling to piece together what Hannah was talking about.
“Oh yeah... Today... Today is your birth... Gradu... Holiday?”

“...Anniversary! That was my next guess!” Megan sighed- the timing may have been unfortunate but the twilight period on this relationship had passed and she wasn’t really in the mood to lead the poor girl along. “Hannah, I’m gonna be honest now, I completely forgot about our anniversary. I also think we need to have a serious talk about...”
“Don’t worry, honeybun! I don’t really mind that you forgot- even I forgot until I checked my countdown timer detailing the exact amount of seconds, minutes and hours it’s been since we got together.... But yeah, don’t fret! I was thinking about visiting my grandma’s retirement home to commemorate the occasion. What better way to strengthen our relationship than by learning from those that have kept theirs for decades!”
“Yay...” Megan put Hannah on mute for a moment as she harrumphed loudly and chucked one of her pillows at her wall. She composed herself quickly, unmuted the call and said calmly, “You know what...”
