"Hey Roni!" the gruff voice called out, making the young collie jump anxiously, knowing what was about to happen. He tried to scurry away, only to be grabbed and pinned to the lockers by a larger boy.
Mark Moors was an older boy, a 13 year old lion with a bulky build that, unfortunately for Roni, had been held back a few years, keeping him in the same grade as kids like Roni. By his side were his friends, Butch the fox and Violet the hyena, both 11 years old and in the same grade as Mark. Tyrone struggled against Mark, hating that he had somehow become the main target of their bullying lately.
"You know, somethin' about your face makes me real mad, Roni. Real, real mad. You're a brainy little wuss that's good for nothin', you know that?" He pulled back his fist and thrust it forward, stopping just before striking the face to make Roni flinch. "Ha! Knew you were more chicken than dog! Why don'tcha grow up and stop bein' such a little wimp?"
With all his heart, Tyrone wished that were true. Suddenly, he felt a strange warmth in his chest. Then came a stretching feeling through his entire body. Mark backed off in surprise as, before his eyes, Tyrone began to change.
