Zach looked up from his computer screen, considering order more pastries after he ate the ones he'd already ordered. "It's kind of expensive though," he thought to himself, trying to dissuade himself. He was still hungry though, even after the previous pastries and heaping bowls bowls of cereal back at the apartment.
He decided he wasn't going to stop himself, it's why he had a credit card after all - to pay for things when he couldn't afford them. Zach walked up to the register to order and saw the 'Now Hiring' sign just beside the register. It wasn't exactly a dream job but it's been hard for him to find work in his field, so why not work at the coffee shop? It's close to home, and maybe I'll get free pastries, he thought.
A woman behind the register with a dirty blonde hair and tattoos approached. "More danish, or you looking for something else?" she asked.
"Uh," Zach stammered for a second. "I actually was going to ask about the job. Can I apply?"
The woman seemed sort of surprised. This wasn't the first time she'd seen Zach in the shop and the sign had been posted for some time. "Well, I'm the manager so I can make that happen for you," she said bluntly.
"Oh, cool. Well, I'm interested, so," Zach began nervously. He was caught off guard by her candidness. Not to mention the fact that he thought the woman was cute but he was trying to not come off like a douche, especially if he was hoping she'd hire him.
"Have you worked at a place like this? What makes you think you'd be any good at it?" she said slyly.
"Well I used to work at the snack stand at my pool growing up. Same sort of think, I imagine," Zach said. He was very casual but something about him was very charming.
"You know what? You're hired. You seem like a good dude and you seem like you need this," she says. "I'm April, by the way."
"Sick, really?" Zach was shocked. He couldn't wait to tell his roommates he had a job, maybe they'd stop giving him such a hard time. "When do I start?" he asked scratching his head.
"Tomorrow," April says. "I'll have one of the guys train you," she finished. She tucked her hair behind her ear and smiled. Zach smiled back, the genuine excitement beaming from his face. It wasn't his dream job but hey, he finally had a job in New York City.
Where to?
