Chapter #4Marilyn, a female fairy by: Unknown So here's the thing about fairies. They're six inches of badassery packed into a very shapely miniature body.
James saw this video one time of this hot little fairy flying along, minding her own business when, out of nowhere, a wyvern swoops in and swallows her in one bite. No warning, no nothing. One second the fairy is flying along, the next, she's a wyvern snack making her way down its digestive tract.
Except that's not how it happens. A few seconds after the wyvern swallowed the fairy, the wyvern explodes in a blinding flash, with wyvern pieces flying all over the place. The fairy reappears and, except for being covered in wyvern goo, isn't worse for the wear.
In the remarks section of the video, the poster goes on to say the fairy was insulted, but what really pissed her off was that the wyvern had absolutely ruined a new outfit. So, in retaliation, the fairy found the nearest nest of wyverns and killed them all.
That's the thing about fairies. They may be sexy and sweet and tiny, but they're virtually indestructible, and a glowing fairy zipping around is like a six inch armor piercing bullet that can penetrate damn near anything.
Given a choice, nobody fucks with a fairy.
There is exactly one fairy at James' school, and her name is Marilyn. Nobody knows much about her, like why she doesn't go to an all fairy school, like all the other fairies do. Marilyn is quiet, well behaved and does well in all her classes. The miniature school uniform she wears is always tidy and pressed.
Everyone is still a little afraid of her, both students and faculty. Even Rene the succubus head cheerleader gives Marilyn a wide berth.
So Marilyn keeps to herself.
When James got to high school and discovered the counselors and teachers there didn't even male a token effort to prevent their human students from being mauled and eaten, he thought about approaching Marilyn to be his girlfriend. After all, fairies openly enjoyed having a human boyfriend, and nobody would dare piss off a fairy by messing with her boyfriend.
There were just a few problems with that approach. Some fairies absolutely hated humans. This goes back to a time when monsters started coming to the human world in droves, rather than an occasional trickle. Fairies offered to help humans stave off the monster invasion. Human mages and scientists instead attempted to capture fairies en masse and use them as living batteries for an anti-monster weapon. The attempt ended badly for the humans.
A lot of fairies still hold a grudge.
Of course, a lot of fairies get excited at the prospect of having a human boyfriend,
Most fairies will enter the relationship with a human wanting an ooey goey sweet gentle loving relationship with their human boyfriend and, as long as the boyfriend remains loyal and affection, the fairy will remain that way as well.
A few fairies, though, like a little leather with their loving. These fairies are physically, mentally and emotionally abusive to their human boyfriends. Often said boyfriend wishes a monster had eaten him before he became a fairy's boyfriend,
James didn't know what Marilyn's views were on humans and, since she kept to herself, had no way of finding out. So James decided the best course of action was not seeking out a relationship with her.
But now James is trying to survive to graduation, and learning magic may be his only hope. And by all accounts, fairies are the best magicians among the non-humans.
So with a great deal of trepidation, James approaches Marilyn in the cafeteria at the table she eats by herself at every day. As he draw near to her table, he is overwhelmed by her beauty. But fairies are almost as famous for their beauty as they are for being inherently dangerous. If Marilyn were human sized, rather than six inches tall, her facial features, hair and skin tone would make James think she was the most beautiful woman who had ever come from indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
