Strange reaction to a chaos emerald

It was child's play for Blaze to blast away the badniks in her path, making her way through Mystic Jungle having once again been sent to Mobius by the Sol Emeralds. She wasn't sure what the situation was just yet, but she knew that whatever it was, she would need to find the Chaos Emeralds. That's just what always happened. Though it seemed the good doctor had sent some of his robots to locate the gem for himself, this plan backfired as it had easily shown Blaze where to look. And with the help of her enhanced senses, she was able to navigate the jungle with ease, disposing of anything in her way.

It took little time at all before she finally set sight on her prize, the Green Chaos Emerald. However, picking it up, she suddenly felt a powerful surge of energy. The gem glowed brightly, and in a flash of blinding light. had vanished completely, leaving Blaze feeling confused, annoyed, and... something else she couldn't quite pin down...
