Chapter #4

Quiet battle

    by: Unknown
Staying in someone's house, even if only for one night and because you were in desperate need, felt wrong. After all, if anyone living in there spotted you, there was no telling what kind of punishment they would have inflicted upon you, the highest chances being you getting simply tossed back out or, worse, stepped on, which could perfectly happen even if whoever lived in the house remained unaware.

Still... you needed a shelter for the night.

So, swallowing your fear, you slowly took a couple steps away from the gym and towards the house, but something held you back: a girl, who you recognized as the person you saw before, was running towards the gym, her Chikorita running beside her.

"We can still make it." you heard her say in a low tone,
"Chika!" the Pokemon replied.

You felt your heart swelling. The girl was heading your way... she could open the door of the gym for you!... Just then, you recalled where you were.

The giantess could open the door for you alright... if you managed to not get stepped on by her!

The moment you realized this, the shoe of the girl was already hovering above you, crafting a huge shadow; hastily, you jumped out of the way as the large foot came crashing next to you, lingering for a moment before it disappeared as the door automatically opened.

Quickly, you stood back up and, while the door was closing back up, you hastily slid inside. Being tiny did have some advantages, after all.

Once inside, the door closed back up behind you, trapping you inside until someone came to open the door again, but you were fine with it: you planned to get someone's attention, possibly the gym leader Jasmine.

And speaking of Jasmine...

"I'm sorry, I'm late,"

You noted the girl from before apologizing to another girl. A stunningly beautiful girl: Jasmine, the steel-type gym leader, who was just standing in front of the other girl, offering a feeble smile.

"My Chikorita ran off and I had to get it back. I'm sorry." the other girl spoke. You noted how quiet she was. When you previously 'met' her, you could hear her voice loud and clear as she called out to her Pokemon to stop; now, you could barely even hear her.

"Um... don't worry, that's alright." Jasmine replied, blushing a bit. Her tone was just slightly higher than the other girl's and, geez, between these two ladies, you could barely hear a word. Good thing your reduced state made everything sound louder.
"We can have our match now, if you're, um, up for it. I don't mind." Jasmine finished.

The other girl, whose name was still unclear to you, smiled.

"Thanks." she said gratefully, only causing Jasmine's blush to gain even more ground on her face.

So, apparently, these two were going to have a gym battle.

Without even having to think twice, you stood aside and sat by a wall: there was no way you could get the attention of one of the two giantesses while they fought, and you didn't want to be anywhere near the battlefield when you were this vulnerable.

Still, watching giant Pokemon fight... that could be entertaining. Since you couldn't get their attention right now, you might as well watch.

You watched as both trainer and leader walked on opposite sides of the battlefield.

"So, um, since you're the challenger, you get the first move." Jasmine instructed.

The other just nodded her head to signal that she had understood, reaching in her bag to grab a Pokeball.

However, before she could toss it...

"Chiko!" the green Pokemon beside the girl chimed, causing her to halt.

"You want to go first, don't you?" she asked quietly, getting a confident nod from her Pokemon,
"Okay then. You're up, Chikorita,"

With a happy cry, Chikorita ran to the field.

You rose an eyebrow. A grass-type against a certain steel-type? You were no trainer, but even you knew that such fight was uneven. This girl must have been a newbie.

"Okay, then," Jasmine said, tossing a Pokeball,
"Magnemite, come on out, please,"

The Pokemon Jasmine called popped out and cried its name.

Then, the battle began.

--

For the next hour, you just watched the two trainers giving silent commands and their Pokemon obeying, clashing with each other in an admittedly pretty good fight.

Even if the unknown girl at been at a disadvantage before, she fought like an expert trainer.

Unexpectedly, her Chikorita took down Jasmine's Magnemite, and put up a good fight against her Magneton as well before the green Pokemon was called back by her trainer and was switched with a Ninetales.

From your point of view, the Pokemon looked magnificent, majestic even. And, expectedly, it took down Jasmine's Magneton in no time.

However, despite the type advantage, Ninetales stood no chance against Jasmine's strongest Pokemon: Steelix. The steel behemoth only used one Earthquake to knock out the poor vulpine while also shaking the whole gym.

You blessed your decision to stay aside.

As she returned her Ninetales, the other trainer smirked, though you couldn't see it.

"Blastoise," she called, tossing her Pokeball; a large, blue, bipedal turtle came out,

"Blastoise!" it cried its name, nearly deafening you.

"Hydro Pump, go," the trainer said. Her Pokemon obeyed without hesitation and pointed the two cannons in its shell towards Steelix.

"Steelix, dodge!" Jasmine yelled, worried for her Pokemon. This was the very first time you heard her voice so loud, and it was as beautiful as Jasmine herself was.

Sadly, as fast as Steelix was, it still got hit by Hydro Pump and got sent flying into a wall by the sheer force of the water; it didn't get up after that.

"Oh no..." Jasmine mumbled, rushing to her Pokemon to check if it was already, before returning Steelix to its Pokeball; then, she turned to the girl with a smile,
"Well, um... looks like you win," she said.

"Yeah." the other replied, her Chikorita jumping around in elation, happy for her trainer's latest victory.

Said trainer returned her Blastoise and approached Jasmine, who held out a gym badge.

You also got up, deciding that this was a great moment to try and get the attention of one of them.

"It's been, um, a great battle," Jasmine admitted with a small blush,
"So here's the Mineral Badge."

The other girl smiled.

"Thanks." she said, accepting the prize and storing it away, before saying,
"Guess I'll be going now."

Jasmine nodded.

"I hope to see you again, Leaf," she said, before smiling and blushing again,
"I look forward to a rematch."

You halted. 'Leaf'? Was that the name of the trainer of Chikorita?

Suddenly, realization dawned on you, while the two giantesses shook hands: this 'Leaf' was a traveling trainer, so if you could get her attention, you could convince her to help you find Mew during her journey!

However, you were a bit unsure.

After all, you didn't know if she'd be willing to help you out, and were far more sure about Jasmine to help you.

As you tried to decide, you noted the two titanesses finally parting ways as Leaf began walking away.

Whatever you had to do, whoever you had to pick, you had to do it quickly: Leaf was leaving!
