Hesitating a moment to mull over whether or not he should tell his family, Jack ultimately confessed to the shrink ray and what had happened at school. The girls sitting in the back were astonished and giggled to each other, making conversation presumably about it, but Jack couldn't tell for sure. His mom, on the other hand, was confused.
"So that machine you have is a shrink ray? And you shrunk down all tiny?" she quizzically asked. Jack nodded. "Yeah, that's it. I know it seems a little wack, but that's the way it is". Payton couldn't really wrap her head around the idea of it. "I know you've had a hectic day, kiddo, but would you mind trying it out when we get home? I'm curious to know what exactly happened". Jack sighed, not really wanting to, especially with Lucy and Izzy around, but he supposed that his mom did deserve to know. "Sure, that's fine". Jack overheard the girls giggle in the back. He slumped in his seat a little and dreaded the rest of the ride home.
When they got back, Izzy and Lucy were anxious to see Jack's machine and raced to the door. Payton laughed and Jack groaned. In a few minutes, everyone was in the living room, with Jack standing front and center in front of the other three who were sititng on the couch. Jack took out the shrink ray and presented it to his sisters and mother.
"This is it. This is the shrink ray" Jack said. The two girls uttered "wow" in amazement and Payton was in utter shock. "Well, are you ready to see how it works?". The girls excitedly nodded and Payton followed suit with a bit more modesty. This time, Jack set the setting to three feet knowing his sisters would probably have too much fun with him only a couple inches tall. Jack pressed the button, and in an instant, was three feet tall.
Surprisingly, Payton was the first to say something. "Wow!" she exclaimed, mouth agape. The two girls, smiles consuming their faces, laughed. "You see?" Jack said. "It's a functioning shrink ray. I could have gone smaller, but that's not as safe". Payton nodded and said "Well, now I understand. But, with everything under wraps now, I'm going to go take a nap, I'm exhausted. I'll make dinner when I wake up". Payton then went up to her room and went to bed, leaving the three kids in the living room.
"So, Jack, care to have some fun with us?" Lucy cheekily asked. Jack suspiciously looked at her. "What excatly did you have in mind?". Lucy looked to Izzy, who explained. "Well, we figured that since you have a working shrink ray, we could have some competiton fun. How does that sound?". Jack, although very skeptical as to their intentions, decided that they may be right, it could be fun. "Sure, sounds good" he accepted. The girls smiled and brought Jack to the couch. "So here's what we're going to do" Izzy began. "For the time being, you're going to stay the size you are and we'll play tag, with both Lucy and I being 'it'. If you can stay away from us for five minutes, you'll get our desserts tonight, but if we get you before then, we get to do what we want with you".
This made Jack hesitate, but he thought that even though the stakes were high, he was very agile and could get away from the two easily. "You got a deal!" Jack smirked. "Then it's settled" Lucy responded. "We do have to make sure to stay a little quiet, though, since Mom's sleeping. But you can start here in the living room, Jack, and we'll begin in our rooms". Jack nodded in understanding, and the girls went to their respective rooms.
