He had been a simple high school student, walking home from school. He had just found a Pokémon game cartridge on the ground. It was a weird pink one, so he thought it was one of those special bootlegged copies he heard about. Pulling out his Gameboy, he inserted the cartridge and tried it out. To his surprise, it worked.
“Cool! Maybe it’s one of the good ones.”
The Screen booted up and instead of an intro, there was a question. Nothing else but bright pink letters.
Do you wish to enter the world of Pokémon?
“Heh, of course.” Even laughed, hitting yes.
As he did so, he wasn’t paying attention to his surroundings as he stepped out into the street. He never saw the truck coming.

Evan woke up on a weird alter as he looked around. He was in some weird stone building with multiple pathways leading out. Like a temple of some kind. It was then he noticed that he might not have been fully solid. Below him was his body, laying on a stone alter.
He was a ghost floating above it.
“AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”
His voice ran through the deserted temple at his situation. The truck had killed him and he was a ghost. After panicking for a few minutes, he finally calmed down and examined the room he was in. There were weird symbols he couldn’t read with pictures of Pokémon, some he recognized, some he didn’t. Was this an Isekai of some kind? Was the weird Pokémon game responsible?
“Guess I don’t have much of a choice.” Evan sighed to himself, looking at all the dark corridors. “I have to do somewhere. I may be a ghost, but I’m not gone yet.”
Above each corridor had some pictures. One had a little ghost drawing with an arrow into what appeared to be a Pokémon. The next corridor appeared to have a symbol of a ghost into a human. The last symbol had a picture of just a ghost. Nothing else.
Evan wasn’t sure what they meant, so he decided to just try one at random.
