No one knew where it came from or who made it. One day, a strange box was found among the rest of the crates and containers delivered to Wilko's. At first glance it had been unassuming; just a small wooden box with a face on the cover emblazoned in black ink. Inside was a remote controller, the same sort you'd use for a television. But the buttons were odd, and a small screen at the top of the remote, when turned on, showed the words 'Select Recipients'.
Was it just some toy? A strange prank?
Steven had no idea. After setting aside dozens of other boxes big and small, and with Aaron and Luke lounging nearby, he took a moment to examine the alien device in his hands. It really didn't look that special, and double checking the box didn't reveal any instructions or a manual. He was half tempted to just throw it in the bin and be done with it before he started pressing a few buttons.
'Head swap selected. Please select recipients.' Steven raised an eyebrow and pressed another. 'Storage. Please select recipient.' And a third said 'Memory', which made about as much sense as the first two.
"Head swap? Alright, someone's having a laugh, there's no way this little thing can do anything like that." Besides, even if it could do such a thing, which it couldn't, who would he even use it on? There was himself, he supposed, but then who else? Aaron and Luke were the only other ones in the room and he wasn't sure he wanted to be another bloke. Although maybe he could swap them instead?
Would that even work? Would they freak out after it happened? He had no idea, and after mulling it over for a moment longer Steven sighed and shook his head. "Why am I even entertaining the idea? This is ridiculous."
It was ridiculous... But he was also a little curious, mostly due to boredom. There was nothing to lose by just trying it out, right?
