Jennifer
You met your future wife through your old friend, Stephen. Though you'd moved over 9 hours and an entire province away, the two of you had remained in contact. As such, when his little sister was in dire straits, he had turned to you.
In a nutshell, Jenny had fallen for the bad boy everybody warned her against. She and her parents had even had a massive blow up over the whole affair, and the young couple had left the province entirely. However, shortly after knocking her up, her slug of an Ex dropped her like a hot potato and kicked her out of his apartment. Estranged from their parents, desperate, and only a mere thirty minutes from you...
You'd understandably been a little reluctant, but had ultimately relented, and now were extremely happy you did. Over the course of a few years, the two of you had fallen head over heels for one another, and tied the knot shortly thereafter. Many happy years of marriage had followed, as had a few more wee bairns. And now, the two of you were travelling back to your childhood town for her ten year high school reunion.
However, there's a problem. You see, Jenny might have put on a teensy amount of weight since your wedding...
Krista
In her youth, Krista had been a very athletic girl. Playing for both the soccer and basketball teams, she was driven, skilled, indefatigable, and highly competitive. If she wanted to win, by God, she was going to win!
Of course, the operative words here are, "had been."
During her senior year, she managed to blow out both of her knees, ending any hopes of a professional athletics career. Initially devastated, you managed to help your best friend since childhood to refocus on academic pursuits. She'd excelled through college, graduating with honours, and finding work in her chosen field shortly after. It was during this time that the two of you finally confessed to one another, and have since gotten married.
That said, not everything has been a bed of roses, especially lately. Your marriage and love for one another has been forged in steel, but some rude bits of life keep trying to intrude where they're not wanted. Take this, for instance: your ten year reunion is coming up, and Krista is about to see her former teammates for the first time since high school. And her weight, well...
... it's honestly getting out of hand.
