This choice: Cut to Fred looking for work • Go Back... After breakfast, Frederick decided he wanted to go out and look for work. Abby had offered to show the human around the city, but the young man wanted to get his bearings of the city on his own. Just like yesterday, the crowded streets proved to be a labyrinth of fat asses and plump thighs that he could possibly bump into or get trapped between. Even worse, since his eye-level barely made it past these Morph’s crotches, most didn’t even notice him. Frederick had to navigate and maneuver through the stomping paws, claws and feet of the various animalistic citizens. And, of course, whenever Frederick was noticed, he would see a grinning muzzle or snout of a Morph tilt down towards him as they wink or blow a kiss at him. Even a few times he was asked if he’d like to exchange numbers with some Morphs, and all he could do is politely decline while blushing beet red.
Eventually, Frederick made his way to the public library. Abby had informed him that not only did they have a free computer section where he could access the internet, but a massive physical and digital job posting board where users could quickly apply, right then and there. As promised, once Frederick made it inside the City Hall Library, there was a huge marble hallway that had massive digital screens and quark boards lining the walls. The boards were big, even by Morph standards, so for a tiny human like Frederick, these boards looked like a movie screen flipped vertically. There were a few Morphs in the hall flipping through job forums, but Frederick mostly had the hall to himself.
Frederick meekly approached a screen and started to use the touch screen to flip through jobs. The difference between applying here versus at home, online, on a laptop, is that here, you could simply enter your name and address and the computer will autofill your most recent applications into the database, allowing one to swiftly apply to dozens, or even hundreds of jobs in only a couple of minutes. As Frederick flipped through tons of job postings, he noticed a lot of jobs that were human-specific were service jobs… but oddly paid very highly. Like a masseuse here seemed to pay double what one would expect, and a lot of these jobs seemed to be in desperate need for human employees, most willing to give a human hire on-the-job training and education. Frederick shrugged, he needed a job to pull his weight… even if his sister was basically swimming in money. He wouldn’t feel good about himself being a freeloader in his sister’s apartment, so the human simply started plugging away… apply for any job he even slightly matched… and that was most of them.
As he clicked the ‘apply’ button on job after job, a small message would keep popping up on the screen saying “Your application will be processed and responded to in 48 hours or less.” Unbeknownst to Frederick, the job application system was much more streamlined in Morph City, where a person looking for a job could apply, be interviewed and start the job in only 2-3 days. As Frederick clacked away on the big screen, he didn’t even notice the giraffe library attendant standing next to him… until she spoke up, “Looking for a job, huh?”
Frederick looked up as he followed the long, chubby neck up to the grinning, yellow snout of the giraffe woman. Looking up so high, so quickly almost gave the human vertigo, “You must be new here, your scent is fresh. You don’t… ‘smell’ like Morph City yet.”
Frederick chuckled, “Um, I guess not. I just moved in with my sister, Abby?”
The giraffe giggled, “Couldn’t be that zebra reporter. What species is she exactly?”
The human shook his head, “N-no, that’s her.”
The giraffe’s eyes widened, “Well… you’re very fortunate. Your family must be very wealthy. Why are you searching for a job then?”
Frederick shrugged, “It wouldn’t feel right not pulling my weight. Plus, a job gives me something to do.”
The giraffe smirked as she finished putting up some flyers on the quark board beside her, “Well cutie, we could always use an extra pair of hands around City Hall. If you’d like, I could put in a word for you.”
She winked, licking her brown lips as she walked off, strutting and sashaying her hips so her couch-sized butt would wobble in her tight jeans. Frederick looked at the curvy giraffe and called out, “Um… could you do that… please…”
The huge woman turned and smirked, “It would be my pleasure hon.”
The giraffe soon disappeared into a wooden door, leaving Frederick alone to apply to a few dozen more jobs, before heading out, satisfied with himself.
The human had to have applied to anywhere from 60-130-something jobs today. Surely he would get at least one callback. The human was once again preoccupied with making his way through the streets without getting trapped in someone’s butt crack, or stomped under someone’s feet. Soon enough, Frederick made it back to Abby’s apartment. His sister was still at the newsroom, so she gave him one of her spare keys before she left after breakfast. He was now alone in her apartment. He decided to check his cellphone, and to his shock, he already had a few dozen email replies from businesses and his phone’s voicemail had 20-30 new voicemail messages. Deciding to sit down to sift through them all, Frederick listened to the various voicemails. They all sounded fairly lewd and his potential bosses sounded quite horny. Both male and female voices were heard over the phone. “Hey there young man. I got your resume and I must say, you look scrumptious. Would love to have you on our team. Could you come in for an interview tomorrow.”
“Greetings darling, this is Patricia, from Panther & Partner Co. You’re quite the strapping young candidate. Could I pencil you in to meet tomorrow. You could feel out the work environment… and if you’d like… I could feel you out too, if you know what I mean.”
“HELLOOOOOOOO TASTY! Glad you applied to our gym. We have an immediate opening with your name on it. And I’ve got a pair of short-shorts with a sticker of your face on it too. Would you like to swing by?”
“This is Lou from Elephantine Electric and I think you’d look GREAT inside my underwear, could you come by for an interview?”
There were quite a lot of voicemails that continued on like that. After making it through that gauntlet, he opened up his laptop, and if the human’s face wasn’t beet red before… it was now. The emails were worded just as lewdly, and some even contained pictures of who he assumed his interviewer and potential-future-bosses were. There was a movie theater position that had a picture of a shark woman in revealing clothing, wearing a striped shirt that barely contained her breasts, and panties that had ‘Your face belongs here’ written on them in big neon green letters… above the picture it read Miranda Stockton, owner of Two Fin Theaters. Further lewd emails had pictures of a hunky husky man in nothing but a speedo, despite him being the CEO of a small app company… a curvy sparrow woman in lingerie who was the owner of a bakery… and so on. There was even a horse woman who was completely nude in her photo, laying in a sexual pose on a desk, assumedly in her office, who was apparently a sociological researcher who does studies on human and Morph relations. Even worse, at the bottom of her email it read “BTW I always do my interviews completely nude. No exceptions.”
Frederick slightly panicked. There were so many jobs, he never expected to get THIS many responses. Despite feeling a bit bad about not giving them a proper, well-written reply, he simply opts to write out ‘yes’ in his text and email replies and writes out a different time for them to meet each of them. Unsure how many of these jobs he’d actually be comfortable doing, he replies ‘yes’ to a vast majority of them. All of these interviews would probably fill up his schedule for the next couple of days, but at least it was something to do. After his frenzy of text and email replies to his dozens of jobs offers, Frederick is caught by surprise as he hears the door open, “WAH!”
Abby walked in with a quizzical look, “H-hey Freddy? What’s up?”
Frederick sighed, “Sorry, was just wrapped up applying to some jobs.”
The hefty zebra put down her purse and stretched out, pushing out her huge rack, “Nice, how many did you apply to?”
The human blushed, “Heh… over… 100…”
Abby’s eyes widened, “Oh, Freddy. Things work way different around here for humans. You could’ve literally just picked your five favorite jobs and called it a day. Humans here have literally no problem getting hired. Did they all call back.”
Frederick could only nod and blush in embarrassment. Abby chuckled and rolled her eyes, “Welp… at least you’ve got something to keep you busy while I’m at the studio all day.”
Where is Frederick’s first interview anyway? indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
