Fayetta smiled, her wide eyes reflecting the rosy hue of the liquid now within her reach. It was a reach she was fully prepared to make were it not for the sudden sound of a twig snapping outside the tent. She froze, realizing only now how long she had been focused on the vial and how she had likely tuned out all other sound during that time—a rare act for her kind considering their naturally sensitive ears, and quite foolish considering how vulnerable it made them.
Pure, paranoid pixie reflex took over her actions in the next few seconds. She corked the vial, grabbed it, and zipped back out of the tent, going as fast as she could without colliding with any trees on her way.
That was so stupid! she chided herself. I bet anything could have caught me with how long my butt was just hanging out in the open over this vial. I really need to be more careful.
She continued at high speeds for at least the next few minutes until she finally calmed herself and slowed to a stop, finding a relatively obscured crevice of a tree branch that offered some cover. Tucking the vial inside, she frowned when the glow illuminated the small cleft in the wood and clearly advertised its presence. To compensate, she grabbed nearby leaves and surrounded it until the glow finally faded and no further trace could be seen. Her tasks accomplished, Fayetta finally allowed herself a sigh of relief, leaning back against the tree as her breathing slowed to normal…until it caught in her throat.
“Where ya goin’, Fay-Fay?”
Fayetta whirled around, her wings letting out a brief, high-pitched whirr as they momentarily conveyed her startled reaction. Once again however, she immediately exhaled and relaxed upon seeing a familiar—though perhaps not entirely welcome—face.
“Sprzix! You scared me half to death, Vi!” Fayetta cursed in their native tongue, glaring at the other pixie who sat smugly in a nearby branch above her. Sporting the same whitish aura and clad in the leaf skirt common for their race, Vi was nevertheless somewhat curvier than her associate in both the upper and lower parts of her frame—a minuscule difference given their overall size but not unnoticed by either of them.
“Well, that’s weird,” Vi raised an eyebrow, fluttering down to the same branch as Fayetta. “You mean you couldn’t tell when one of your own kind approached? What’s got you all buzzy?”
“Nothing. Dunno what you mean,” Fayetta shook her head as nonchalantly as she could. “And why are you here anyway? Get tired of following around your latest favorite heavyfoot?”
“Psh, whatever,” Vi scoffed, though inwardly irked at her master being spoken of in such a dismissive way. “I was just bored, apparently unlike you. I saw you take off faster than a sparkfly a moment ago. The only time you ever move that fast is if you found something interesting.”
Fayetta tensed, unprepared for both how perceptive Vi was and how predictable she herself was. “W-What? No! I didn’t find any shinies!”
“Who said anything about shinies?” Vi smiled in satisfaction at the confirmation, as well as the brief crestfallen turned to glaring gaze from her rival. “C’mon, show me whatcha got. I promise I won’t tell anyone.”
“No!” Fayetta crossed her arms defiantly, pursing her lips together to keep herself from accidentally blabbing anything further.
“C’mooooonnn! Showmeshowmeshowmeshowmesho—”
“Shut your stupid face! I said no and that’s final!”
“Fine, fine.” Vi held up her hands and looked away in resignation—only to glance back at a suspicious pile of leaves behind Fayetta that she had noticed moments before. Turning to fly back up to her previous branch, Vi instead looped around in a quick U-turn, swooping past the leaf pile and scattering it with the air displacement from her wings. Fayetta frantically leaped up to grab and reset the dispersed foliage, but Vi had already landed and pulled out the gleaming container she had tried to conceal, eyeing it with an insatiable, all-too-familiar curiosity.
“Aha! What’s this?” she asked triumphantly, her tiny hands running across the glass.
Fayetta threw down her now pointless leaf pile and grabbed the vial, yanking it free from Vi’s clutches. “It’s mine is what it is. I got it from a heavyfoot. Get your grubby little hands off!”
Vi was too enthralled to be bothered by Fayetta’s harsh words or actions, inclining her head to get a better look. “Not just a shiny, but something to sip on? Is it sweet? It looks sweet.”
Fayetta was able to restrain herself from snapping at Vi again, aided by the fact that Vi seemed content with just observing for now. “I dunno yet, I haven’t tried it. I have seen heavyfoots drink these though. They do all sorts of weird things—make ‘em smarter, heal ouchies, even make themselves disappear.”
“Well can I tr—”
“No!” Fayetta held the vial further away from her fellow pixie. “I found it, so I’m trying it!”
“Well then, try it already!” Vi goaded, starting to become annoyed with Fayetta’s manic behavior—which was starting to be a bit much, even for a pixie. She watched in anticipation as the cork was pried off and Fayetta tilted the container toward herself, bringing the liquid up to, then past her lips as several drops slid down her throat. After a few moments, her face softened into a pleasured smirk.
“Ooo, I feel a little tingly…”
Starting at her feet, the colorless aura surrounding her figure began to deepen in hue to match the color of the liquid she had just consumed. It moved up her body as though she were being filled with it, until she was fully permeated. The tingle she felt began to manifest into a visible shiver as her hips twitched with stimulation…
