Chapter #4

Elvish

    by: Isekario Author IconMail Icon
"Laepha!" A voice echoes through the eerie forest. The elvish explorer ignoring the many calls, well decided to go ahead of her party, despite the many explicit warnings given during the quest presentation back in town.

The quest itself didn't seem so exciting at first. A typical recon operation to gather traces of some creature threat. The town of Meirah was often subject to attacks from the sky. Fireballs, thrown rocks and what not... As if the town wasn't under enough with goblins, orcs and other nuisances. Some would have thought building a citadel or something instead of letting the population exposed. Instead many creatures where reported destroying farmland, houses, stealing cattle and even people. Nothing out of the usual other than the divert demographic this time, girls weren't the only ones disappearing this time. After all what other use could a DRAGON have with us common folk?

Yeah dragons, the kind with huge bodies, wings, daggers all over the body and bone melting fire blown straight out of the maw. The town was far from defenseless though. Between the royal guards and the guild of poor souls searching for fatal glory, many of them were taken down. But they would still be coming.
Royal guards manned the defenses so it was up to the guild to send adventurers to explore the nearby mountains and find the nests.

Laepha is the typical elvish adrenaline junkie. No is just not an answer she'll twist her ears to. But don't mistake that with a weak mind. She shows a lot of cunning when required. She shows a lot of proficiency in magic casting, the charming section in particular. Fitting with her fighting style, preferring open spaces acrobatics to out maneuver her foe. As a consequence armor isn't her cup of tea. Enough leather to cover anything vital but even then, not a material you'd rely on to stop a blade.
Hot shot character is what people would expect of her at this point, dashing alone if you prove to be to slow for her liking.

As she rushes ahead she eventually stopped before a great cave entrance, the gaping hole being at least ten times her size. There is no doubt about it. it could only be the lair of a dragon. She recalled the many tales of these beasts, explaining the origin of such creatures, ancient beings who flew the skies well before the dawn of men. Old tales mentioning the origin of magic coming from within them. As mentioned before, the size and weaponry at their disposal was not to be taken lightly. Anyone faced with such a beast would be forgiven to turn tails and run back home. Somehow, the fear was drowned by excitement in the heart of the young elf.

She took a deep breath before taking a first step inside. Darkness taking over, she only had a light spell to illuminate five meters ahead. The cold shadows kissing her soft skin as she was lightly clothed for the exploration sortie. Her legs, arms and belly where bitterly exposed to the frosty wind being sucked from the cavern. The dark caves split apart like labyrinths and if not for the sweet touch of wind directing the exit, anyone would be doomed to roam the rocky darkness for eternity.

As she kept going into the depths she encountered many sets of bones and ruined armor. Past adventurers having met their makers sadly. A fate likely reserved for one taking a wrong turn.
