Liz took you to Grand Admiral Sarah Blake’s quarters on the flagship. As she set you up to dine on the Admiral’s personal table, the woman herself came in.
“How do you do, sir?” She asked politely.
“Well, ma’am,” you respond equally politely.
A petty officer acting as a waitress came in to serve Liz, the Grand Admiral and “the Army General yet to come”. Her giant face beamed a broad smile towards you and she used a finger to stroke you on the back, between your legs and to pet your head. “How’s our nation’s cutest ally?”
“Well, ma’am.”
Her smile became bigger and perkier. “It’s an honor to meet you, sir,” she said before she departed.
“The Army General yet to come” arrived. “Mary O’Brien, Commander of the 10th Field Army.”
You know of the 10th Field Army by reputation. For the nation occupying yours in your name, the 10th Field Army was by far the best of its 20 field armies.
“When your President said that power by air and space was insufficient, that troops on the ground were needed, she wasn’t kidding.”
“No, sir.”
The Grand Admiral continued, “The President has seen fit to dissolve the air and space garrison into units subordinated to my command. Army General O’Brien will raise two more field armies from local sympathizers.”
“Good!” You shout.
The Grand Admiral continues, “At the highest level, the counter-insurgent and political commands will be merged. Due to the extreme threat posed by the insurgency, liberty and privacy for thumb-sized heads of state is now obsolete. All real political responsibilities will be handled by O’Brien as chief of counter-insurgency.”
“Since your confinement is your and our good, you will spend your time not in some hedonistic pleasure palace but your carrier’s pocket. Accordingly when O’Brien actually has use for you, she will be able to rely on the loyal friend she has in her pocket. You will dine at her table within reach of her right hand. Since you don’t need privacy anymore, you will sleep under a heat lamp in the terrarium kept in the general’s bedroom.”
You stare at the Grand Admiral silent and incredulous. She continues, “You will of course be granted breaks from being at O’Brien’s disposal but only breaks sufficiently long to be bathroom breaks. These are the terms and conditions by which you shall live. And they are non-negotiable.”
